Hi all. First post. Please be gentle. A petite lady (who may have just necked a pint of spinach, pickled in vodka) ripped the most important exterior door handle off my series two at 4am today. Luckily it was the last job of the night, unluckily it's a Sunday so all the scrapyards are shut! I need clues for my Monday scrapyard ramble, or eBay hunting. MAIN QUESTION: With Metrocabs being mongrels of many parents, what was the daddy of the exterior door handles? Even google's reverse-image search has failed me in a 7 hour hunt online. Plan for now: I'll swap the front handle to the back, and be 6 seat for a few days 'til parts arrive. Anyone done this? Various postings cite equivalent parts as answers, hence the broad topic title "Metrocab equivalent parts". I'll riffle through the ones I find on this forum (headlights, window switch etc.) and elsewhere, and post them in short-form here as time permits. So it begins: This OP will be updated as I get new info. ------------------------------- EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES: updated 20160306 2240

Wasn't sure 1974 was the same, and figured a known alternative might get me one in driving distance (sooner). Establishing alternatives is handy when sourcing parts from factors that are clueless with regards to metrocabs. I want a new rocker cover gasket, I don't mention metrocab or local partco geezer gets lost in his computer, say ford banana and the light bulb behind his eyes light up and I get NEW parts same day. Knowing what fits allows other coolness, like chrome handles to be swapped in where possible. If a ready list is of alternatives is out there, I've not found it, hence the idea to build it here. The breakers will stop being useful too soon. |

skippy41 wrote: Montego, Cortina It gets better. Thanks. I'll start collating these off-line then edit the OP with a more succinct list of these and other equivs. I don't mind curating it if folk wanna keep posting them (for all bits, not just the handles). For now, I plan to source a local one, fit it, sleep, eat, and then go sit on the rank, where I'll almost certainly get time to work on the list. |
