So after being told by my genius mechanic that my lower radiator hose was leaking, turns out it's actually the pump Apparently it's a 2 to 3 hour job, but is it something I can attempt myself or is a PITA to do? Are there any tips or things that have to be watched out for etc? Do I need to replace the gasket and O ring, or might I just get away with replacing them and not the whole pump? |

Replace the pump and gasket, also use a sealant on both sides of the gasket for added sealing |

Alright, I'm goin to have a crack at changing the water pump myself. I know you come at it from above, first remove the coolant expansion tank, then - and the bot that's worrying me becuase I've never done it on any car before - remove the belt. I know you take the slack off via the tensioner but what do I have to be mindful of when removing and replacing the belt? I was also told to be really careful when disconnecting the hoses from the back of the pump because the housing is fragile and has a habit of cracking is mishandled. Apparently they're continued now so I'm scrabbling around breakers if I damage it. Please let me know if there's anything I really need to know? |
