I probably need a front wheel bearing, id like to do both

Merc quote £190 for a hub c/w bearing ready to fit (one side) (supply only inc vat)

I can buy SKF bearings for £40 per side

A very posh friend of mine needed a bit of wiring done by Mercedes to connect her CCTV she bought.

Mercedes wanted over £300 plus vat, the local CCTV fitter did it in five minutes and didn't charge her.

Although she did take them a couple of tins of Roses.

Fitted a bearing kit in a hub, then i had more lights and warnings than a stolen airliner...

the rear seal in the kit wasnt magnetic to operate the ABS/cruise/speed limiter/tyre pressure indicator/ESP......

so today its all off again and also getting all 4 brake discs and pads

what was cheap? FFS

anyway, the noise wasnt the wheel bearings

the mechanic removed the rear disc to start fitting discs/pads and the parking brake (shoes) mounting/retaining springs were broken, the shoes have been dragging on the drum

but it passed its brake test for MOT

youd £150 extra for the casting just to scrap it?

and then find your £190 Merc hub is fitted with the same SKF bearings?

Time is money as they say and you’ve had to have it back in the garage to sort the seal out again as it wasn’t the right one. It all depends on the labour charges.
