| Post subject: | TX2 Brakes Spongy as F#ck? |
The last time I changed my front pads and rotors, I got the car back with feedback (vibration form the brake pedal) and spongey brakes. I was told the pads I'd supplied were non mintex and that was the issue. I drove them until they needed replacing last week and this time got legit Mintex MLB85 pads, mechnic told me rotors and brake lines are fine - he also bled the brakes 4 times to be sure and couldn't get them any better...... ....but they are still spongy as [edited by admin]. Like I'm literally stepping on a tall pile of wet rags to brake. Can anyone tell me what might be the problem? New master brake cylinder? New front or rear cylinders? Any ideas? |

It maybe front wheel bearing Top tip if having problem with brakes lock off The two front breaks by placing A brake clamp on each of the front Flexi pipes and then please one on the rear Flexi pipe going to the rear axle, then try your brakes, if they feel good remove the brick clamps one at a time checking the brakes at the same time, usually points you at the wheel you’re having problems with |

Thanks Mr T! I'll give the clamp trick a try. If I isolate it to one brake, do you think it's a case of just replacing the cylinder for that wheel? Also If I clamp them off and they still feel like crap is that a indicator that the master cylinder need replacing? |

I can’t tell you what’s wrong with your brakes because I can’t see them and it would be dangerous for me to even try, what I can say is that spongy breaks is usually down to fluid leaking from a cylinder so what you look for is a wet cylinder, 2 if your pedal feels like it is going up and down under your foot then that can be caused by rear brake drums, Usually someone has taken them off using a hammer, when you take drums off and look at the inside you can usually see discolouration marks, a blueish tinge where the hammer has hit the drum and the dents get hot, if your front wheel bearing is worn or loose, it will make the front brake disc to open and close the front pads and your foot brake goes up and down, if you have locked up all the pipes and your pedal is rubbish obviously after everything has been bled, then that would point to the master cylinder, when the master cylinder tends to have problems the brake fluid in the reservoir goes black. |
