problem with 406 speedometer, suddenly stopped working checked sender unit on gearbox, is this a common fault has happened on both (P) reg 2.1 diesels models

Yeah its a common fault, the sender unit is basicly a set of plastic cogs and the teeth snap off the cogs. Good news is that they are not expansive to replace.
