 Post subject: Hudson re-treads

Up until 8 months ago I always used Dunlops or Michelins for the Taxi's I have owned.

However there was a shortage of 'purpose builts' back in the spring which resulted in me fitting two Hudson L.T's to the rear wheels.

They came in at £32 each, fitted and nearly 25'000 miles later they look no different, and no punctures to date.

Needless to say there are two going on the front tomorrow.

Recomended.

We ain't allowed re-treads - have to have approved tyres that have TAXI standing out all around the tread to show mileage left. Personally I'd never use a retread - it might be cheap in principle but is it really worth it if you have a blow out?

buses use re-treads so are they un-safe with 30 people on board? i use re-treads on my piece of LTI SHEET(front's last 3or4 months,dunlops etc last 5or6 for double the price) not really a difficult decision :) however, saloon cars have an advantage in that budget tyres such as nankang cost the same as re-treads for the ICON

well if the highest in Europe allows you to use re treads then it doesn't say much for the European standards.

A guy who boasts how much money he makes and yet resorts to retreads tells a tale.

When you need to slam on the brakes I am sure your customers will appreciate you saving a few quid.

I use hudson retreads as well. £25 each for my omega.
If the London PCO allow them that's good enough for me.
Tom Thumb, I wouldn't go on a plane if I was you, aroeplanes use retreads!!.

If you save £25 on a tyre by buying a remould, then that's a massive saving of about 0.1 of a penny per mile.

Is it really worth it? :?

The way people go on about retreads, you would think they are dangerous!.
What is dangerous are 2nd hand tyres, I cannot believe people spend £15 on one, when you can can get a retread for £25.

All a re mold is, is a tyre that has been put on the mold twice, to cut the tread, F's they would not be able to sell them if they where not safe, and as long as there is the kite mark shown on them they are OK.
Have some of you not seen the how its made programs, or top gear, and no the hamster did not have them on the car he had the accident with.
If Michelin or dun lop re cut a new tyre, they brand them with a different name or as re mold but the rubber is just the same as a new one, and that is why GBC, rear ones are lasting.

I do well enough thanks GBC. And if I didn't buy new you wouldn't be able to use my cast offs. Bet you shop at charity shops for your work 'uniform' as well.

And do you recycle Taxi Talk in your bog down the bottom of the garden.

Location: Plymouth, i think, i'll just check the A to Z!
i bought cheapo remoulds once £100 for all 4. never again, the car handled differently and they lasted less than 10K miles before one blew out.

i went back to contientals at £120 each and it feels much beeter, handles well and have 18K on them with plenty left still.
