Post subject:  Front Tyres - what mileage do yours do?

Hi All

I was expecting a fourm already on this, but could not find one.

Anyway I have a MPV Zafira and generally use Budget Tyres. I need to replace the front tyres every 15k miles as then they are usually quite a bit below the limit. I obviously maintain the vehicle, therefore check the pressure weekly.

15k does not sound a lot to me, what mileage do your rest of you do?

I generally prefer to stick to Budget mainly for the cost, but also the state of my local roads the tracking is also always going.

You buy budget tyres, you get budget mileage.

I would hope from new you would get 15,000, but I only got 12,000 on my new vehicle's front. As for the back, I think 20,000 if you are lucky.

Not sure exactly (apart from the price) what the difference is between budget and top brand tyres, but I would say most of my mates wouldn't know a Michelin or Goodyear tyre if it ran over their foot.

I was getting 20/25000 out of 'budgets' in my old Mondeo. Price: £25-ish each. My current drive is an '04 plate Vectra. Mileage is 30000-ish with, I presume, the original boots. They look like I should get about 40000 out of them.

It seems to me a fine balance between cost and durability. I look forward to reading other points of view.

Three of my tyres are OK, they're the original ones that were on my cab when I got it brand new last month. The other one, which incidentally can be found at the front nearside has had to be replaced as I found it to be losing pressure rapidly after a nail got embedded in it near the High Street in Kirkcaldy.

I think I will need to pay for a new one soon though even though I could do without spending because if I have another burst then I'm in it deep to put it politely because I only got one spare wheel and tyre with my TX4 and now I'm using it.

Other than that though the tyres have not let me down, they're Dunlop taxi tyres and I've covered 3,153 miles now.

True but also think if you get a broken bottle through your EXPENSIVE tyre, it is as naffed as a budget and has cost you twice as much

If I get half the mileage with a budget tyre then I am no worse off.

Absolutly, My comment was meant more as saying don't expect budget tyres to last as long as premium tyres. If you know that you will not get more than say 15,000 miles from your tyres and you are happy with that, there is no problem. If the road holding is ok and performance in the wet is ok, again no problem.
