i'm have a '98 1.8 TD and the starter went tits up on thursday night. i thought it may have been the battery to start with as it was a bit sluggish turning over before it started earlier in the shift. had to bump start it to get it home. got a brand new battery as the one i took out was completely flat and wouldnt take a charge.
now got a new starter motor but its a pig to get out the old one. 3 big bolts, and the bracket on the end comes off easy enough, plus wire off. but still doesn't budge. looks like the thread for 2 on the nuts goes through the front engine mount where theres another nut between the mount and the engine block.
trouble is one of the nuts to take off the engine mount is seized tight and i've rounded it off with the socket.
any ideas? can the motor come off with dropping the engine mount as well?
typical busiest weekend for ages and the car packs up
