In Torbay the plate price has been falling in the last 12 months. (£42.000) now selling around the mid 30s rumours that one sold for £26.000 in the last few weeks. This could be attributed to Teignnbridge dereg a few months ago (next door LA) .the fact that it costs £160 a week to hire plate without car, some drivers are giving up hackney to go to PH ,this inturn means there are plates not in use which means rental value is coming down as drivers seek the cheapest deal .

about time too i say.

Fewer and fewer councils are restricting taxi numbers, which in my opinion is a good thing.

Especially when we have cases, like in your manor, when all drivers are renting is a taxi plate. If plate owners can't even be bothered to supply their own motor, then they deserve to lose the lot.

Think Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Edinburgh . . . .

Nothing more than the scumbags deserve. It's amazing how one minute they're just another driver but after buying a plate, they're Charlie Tatties

I bet there's a lot of squealing going on right now ... poof, no more little illusion.

Whilst I don't believe in plates being sold at a premium deregulation without limits causes massive problems

there needs to be a more flexible system which doesn't create a massive influx of drivers making it difficult for the existing drivers to earn a descent living without putting in 70 or 80 hours a week

I don't see why councils cannot bar the transfer of plates and make all new plate holders apply from scratch

If the councils that still restrict where to insist that the plates where handed back instead of being sold by transfer, the council could then issue it to the next person on the list for free

Is there not a law that prohibits the rental of a plate without a vehicle.

Should you not refer to the proprietors of Hackney Carriage vehicle (s) who rent out their vehicle (s) to a day man and a night man, and possibly drive themselves say for one day a week on a weekend as plate holders.

Or am I just being picky

Well the law states that the owner of the vehicle is the owner/proprietor of the plate, but how many LOs know the law. :?

Probably just convenience me little southern softy pal ............... my opinion is that every LO just wants to go to work and get no hastle, so if you make a request for them to change something or take action against something, and while doing so offer a solution quoting the law they are more likely to actually do something about it.
