I was speaking from a hackney point of view... hackney vehicles.....

So was I

And as for private hire.... if the firm is doing the job properly and also the driver.... by taking the name and address of the person hiring the vehicle then he's pretty much safe.... unless he decides to pick one off the road..... but that is up to him is it not....

Well perhaps pre-booked work is safer than street work on average, but you can't be saying that drivers never get bother doing pre-booked work?
I am not saying driving a hackney or a private hire vehicle is a safe job.. then neither is running a petrol station or off-licence.. and I have even read of milkmen being robbed whilst collecting the milk money....... private hire is short for hiring a vehicle privately.
you could have a very nice vehicle and build up your own work with a very respectable client base.... and never have to pick up the scrum...... but that is down to the business Actium of that person...

Driving a hackney is about never knowing who your next passenger is.. when you work the road...... How safe you are depends on you... your obviously safer petitioned off in a purpose built vehicle that can be locked to keep people out.... against... driving round in a 10 year-old escort with a sign on the roof.....

But you read it all on here...ie. vehicles should not have aged limits..... it should not be purpose-built vehicles.... drivers should have the choice of what vehicles they use... it all revolves around cost..... so what price do they put on their safety... or is that someone else's responsibility......

Skull.... I will tell you why I fitted cameras in my taxis, it was not for the reason the drivers were afraid of the passengers. the hackney drivers down here are very capable of looking after themselves when troubles about,
It was because making an insurance claim against a Taxi became the In thing ( having an accident in the back of the Taxi.... driver stopping at traffic lights and passenger falling off the seat) it was all the rage! the insurance companys were refusing to insure drivers unless they paid much higher premiums...... it's amazing how well it worked.... a claim comes in... you send them a copy of the tape..... and then they go away..... the added benefit has not been a reduction in violence...... but its certainly proved that allegations made by certain women had no truth ..... when you have a purpose built vehicle drivers are pretty safe...... that is why you pay more in the first place..... safety..... you might have noticed that 99.9 per cent out of the drivers that have been murdered were all driving saloon vehicles..... being tight-fisted can well cost you your life....

Chill out Trev old bean, I think your cameras are a good idea, in fact, they make perfect sense. I was only taking a pop to show you think, “Trevor first” and everyone else last, and that’s fine by me but spare me the “I give a shi*about the drivers” routine.

A paragon of virtue, you most definitely are not.

You know Trev, if you were just a little bit more honest about being a [edited by admin]*, you and I could be pals

Trevor doesn’t need you to answer for him GA, or to back him up. You are way down the pecking order when it comes to the dynamic being played out on this forum.

You my auld brownnoser, have a lot to learn.

Here’s a tip, stop sticking your tongue up peoples ar*holes and you’ll get a better view of what’s really going on.

Oh and btw, you were beat before any argument even started

And that is just about the nub of it.....

It is up to each individual to assess the risks against the economic benefits of the vehicle they wish to run.

There will be those who see their greatest economic benefit in working a TX, for example, because they can take wheelchairs, greater numbers (ie 'multi seaters') and they have a security screen giving them more confidence to work the ranks. They are happy to pay £x for a vehicle knowing their returns could be higher.

Alternatively, there are those who prefer to have a comfortable vehicle that older, less mobile people can get into, are happier not having to carry greater numbers of people but are willing to forego the security aspect for £x-y.

Ultimately, 'man does everything for a profit' or, in economists jargon, the choice of vehicle is dependent upon the 'opportunity cost' of making one decision against another. That is the choice each of us makes thousands of times a day (Yes - I do mean that - Argue against it!). Our selection of vehicle is no different, it is a personal assessment of what will be best for us!

Yes, I agree so why does Trev, pretend to care about the driver if all he is interested in is Trev, sorry, I mean profit?

Silly me

I think you have been left on the doorstep for too long in the sun... and have gone off..... definitely not the same as all the other pints of milk ... yourself imposed lonely existence has left you in a world all of your own..... what's best for Skull world..... I suppose it is very difficult for you to realise the concept of friends in your working circle , try this.... get three or four people and yourself in a circle.... then try telling stories and jokes and laughing........ eventually you'll get the hang of it.... and maybe even realise the concept of friendship ... best of luck ....
And you're right silly you

I can't honestly see a difference in your arguments.

'Man does everything for a profit.'

Skull is making comments detrimental to Mr T because he perceives a 'profit' in so doing. Comments will be made either pro- or anti- my point of view because the commentator will decide whether his 'profit' is greater one way or the other.

The term 'profit', when used in it's widest sense, is the sole motivation for everything you do.

I don't have a problem with Mr. T making a profit and that's the point - Mr. T pretends that he cares - total bull.

Oh and btw Cabbyman, the concept you are spouting is nothing new. In which book did you stumble upon this font of profound knowledge?

I bet I can guess . . . .

It's OK.. he judges every body by what he is himself .... he is not prepared to risk any of his money to make his living.... but is prepared for every bloody else to lose what they have worked for so that he might make a profit.

And I haven't got a problem with making a profit.... I just don't agree in making everybody's plates worthless so that I could make money..
PS.. why is Mr Cabbyman a Turkey ??

Trevor, the plates were never worth any more than the licence fee. It's guys like you and your council chums that keep the mushrooms in the dark and feed them Shi*. Those ignorant saps buying in don't know any better.

If you could make money out of the council pulling the plug you wouldn't hesitate.

You would of course spout some shi* in an attempt to justify yourself, and that goes without saying.

btw, "paints of milk", do you have a pint or a paint of milk?

Yes, we all make mistakes but not after quoting from some book in an attempt to attack someone.
