One of the classic London sat-nav cock-ups were the two coach loads of school children on a history trip to Hampton Court.

Unfortunately they ended at Hampton Court, Islington (any knowledge boy knows this point).

I do not say it is true but I have been informed by a number of sources that the PCO are considering making Fairways obsolete by 2012. (Aparently it has something to do with door height & the disabled) There is no literature to this effect on the PCo/TFL website.

Edinburgh managed to get rid of the Fairway model under similar circumstances.

To be honest, by 2012, the newest Fairway will be approaching 15 years old, so I'd rather hope there won't be too many around by then.

I had an H reg up until 2005, but it was immaculate and looked like a new taxi, I spared no expense keeping it like that, as with the next one 'R621' and the latest one which is a 2005 TX2.

Like clothes, your taxi can say a lot about your outlook on life and professional standards.

Sadly most of the in service London licensed Fairways are now owned by the fleet rental folks, most of them look like they've been used as a chicken shed.

By 2012 my metrocab will be 24 years old, although I might think of trading it in after the olympics windfall that everyone keeps telling me about  At present i just cannot justify spending £800 monthly repayments on a totalshit4 plus insurance & servicing ect. The money is better in my pocket, not Lti's & as a businessman I like to keep my overheads as low as possible. Anyway I am digressing....thanks for the replies chaps

Surely you must put a bit away every week so that you can pay cash for upgrading your vehicle? Thats what a bussiness man would do.

Is there a connection with this rumour and the drop in sales of the TX2 TX4 and the introduction of the Merc?

I can see in now..
'owners of the Fairway taxi are letting down the trade and London for the 2012 games...'

I think the drop in LTI sales is down to two main factors:

1 - The boom they enjoyed as drivers decided not to convert their Taxi's to Euro 3 emissions standards and bought a new one.

2 - The current slow down and the fact every news channel is constantly telling us the end is nigh for the British economy, will mean many drivers will be hanging onto their taxi's for a bit longer than planned.
