Your correct and its mainly the PH sheds that are dragging it down, there should be an age restriction on all PH vehicles max 10 and off

You're not correct, your imposing your view in an area where you aint licensed.

York City Council have at their disposal upto 3 tests per year on all licensed vehicles, they can set the standard of test.

If the vehicles are still 'sheds' then that isn't anyone elses fault other than York City Council and the vehicle owners.

If people consistently take 'sheds' for tests and they fail on a regular basis of 'shed-loads' of faults, then take the licenses off the owners.

In many areas, if not most, the standards of PH are miles better than the other lot.

And I would guess the age of the average PH is less than that of the other lot.

Stinky has already confirmed that the PH in York are sheds old cavaliers and Astra's
a PH vehicle should be of a decent size to accommodate 3 people of average build to sit comfortably on the back seat not shoe horned in

That is an opinion.

The act states different.

48. Licensing of private hire vehicles.— (1) Subject to the provisions of this Part of this Act, a district council may on the receipt of an application from the proprietor of any vehicle for the grant in respect of such vehicle of a licence to use the vehicle as a private hire vehicle, grant in respect thereof a vehicle licence:

Provided that a district council shall not grant such a licence unless they are satisfied—

(a)that the vehicle is—

(i) suitable in type, size and design for use as a private hire vehicle;

(ii) not of such design and appearance as to lead any person to believe that the vehicle is a hackney carriage;

(iii) in a suitable mechanical condition;

(iv) safe; and

(v) comfortable;

Then York council should impose and enforce better standards.
Age limits penalise those who look after their vehicles and benefit those who double shift and don't spend money on maintenance.

You are so right, but things are changing slowly, but in york the hackney trade has lost so much work they have a cheek to ask £60,000 for a plate, i do more on a night than a hackney does.

I think when it's busy both sides earn much the same.

When it's quiet a PH will earn more than a non-radio taxi, but not a radio taxi that uses it.

But I think many radio taxis get lazy and just want to talk about how bad it is, so IMO even then a PH driver that will run for work will earn more than a radio taxi.

I'll take it your making reference to somewhere outside of London? :shock:

There's just no comparison with a Minicab and a London Taxi, Radio fitted or otherwise.

I'm just listening to your colleagues, who when it's quiet hardly earn enough for their daily pot of jellied eels. :shock:
