Arriva are a big company they could afford to drop their fares to 10p for a few months if they needed to to win the price war i hope that the cabbies know what they are doing ?

A few years ago arriva drove a lot of their competition out of business in leicester by doing cheap fares and then when they had cornered the market up they went

the Council should be very careful in considering whether or not to put all their Eggs in one Arriva basket, if Arriva drivers Strike or If Arriva suffers as often Big Businesses do then its Feched up for all late night Travellers as the only Taxis they'l see will be in Museums. and your right..once they corner the market its an Upward price hike to reclaw their losses on their road to achieving Arriva supremacy...it sucks .

it also makes you wonder whos grubby little palms get crossed with silver on the road to their market domination...

So £1.00 per adult and 50p per child :-|
So what happens when they get 5 adults in at a fiver and the meter shows say £4.20 they can be charged with over charging could they not :?:
A bit of a mine field this one

It will be interesting to see what effect this has on the profits of arriva in Derby, whether or not they understand the law and if they know how to legally rectify the situation. We've had so many discussions and published reams of legal documentation on this website regarding seperate fares and plying for hire that everyone by now should understand the law in this respect. In the interest of fairness to the bus industry it should be pointed out that there are certain laws that taxi drivers have to comply but I doubt the bus industry needs me to remind them what those laws are.

I don't think for one minute, that bus companies are concerned about the money they receive from passengers, they make their money through the subtleties they are paid for providing the route, they get paid whether the bus is full or empty. but by encouraging people to use the bus( by offering a cheap rate ) it justifies its existence.

If 10 per cent or maybe 20 per cent of the Hackney Trade in any district/ City apply to the council, they then can set up a taxi bus scheme, up to eight seats. designated routes that are subsidised,..... this has been in existence for many years.. 8)

Not all routes are subsidised in fact only those routes that are uncommercial and deemed non profitable are subsidised, this particlar route doesn't fit that category.

I suggest you go read the 1985 act again and then come back and tell us what it really says in respect of taxis operating either a bus or taxi sharing service. Somewhere down the line you have become confused with two different sections of the act but a quick read of the act might remedy your confusion.

I have a number of friends that took advantage Many years ago of the change in law. using the smaller vehicles... they have all sold out now to the larger companies .. the only thing the companies were interested in where the subsidies... they paid a high price to buy them out ...... they must have thought it worth while .... they obviously got it wrong.

I think a case could be made for a non-radio taxi offering the 'cheap as chips' run into town, but for radio taxis it's a rather daft business move.

Cos all the punters currently paying full price into town will now be making their way to the nearest bus stop hoping to get a mug only charging a £1.
