Exclusive: Fake taxi rape suspect flees home to Sudan

A RAPE suspect who allegedly lured a woman into his fake taxi has fled the country.

Abrahim Selman, 31, is believed to have returned home to Sudan in Africa last month.

The Record can reveal Selman, who had been living in Leith, Edinburgh, had been fired from two private-hire companies in the city for inappropriate behaviour towards women.

In August, a 26-year-old woman was raped after getting into a dark coloured Volkswagen saloon, posing as a taxi.

Police described the suspect as black, 5ft 8in, about 30, with short black hair, and wearing a red T-shirt and jeans.

Yesterday, a taxi source said: "The police have been in every week since the attack asking about Abrahim Selman. Then they told us he's done a runner to the Sudan.

"We sacked him after a number of female staff and passengers complained about his behaviour."

A police spokesman said: "A 31-year-old man is the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal in connection with the sexual assault."

How can a taxi rape be fake? Isn't a rape a rape?

And, what's the mechanics of a volkswagen saloon "posing" as a taxi? I mean, does it have to take acting lessons?

And a taxi source is quoted as saying ""We sacked him after a number of female staff and passengers complained about his behaviour."

Except, it's already been stated that it was a private hire type vehicle and NOT a taxi.

Once again, the press, this time the Daily Ranger - formerly known as the Daily Record, fails to recognise what a taxi is. Is it any wonder the public are confused? Isn't it such scurrilous reporting that encourages the public to make these mistakes and get into pseudo taxi vehicles?

And, isn't it the difficulty getting a taxi late at night, because of the council's restriction policy, that encourages the public to do so?

Thats twice I agree with you in one day....I'm going to sit down, this is all too much
