Taxi Driver Online

A good friend of mine ( ) is testing out one of these things.

His initial thoughts are they are good, and at least they work. But he has concerns that some drivers will struggle with the set up.

With the old system you press a button, with the new pockets it's a little bit more involved, and the old buggers may well struggle.

But being able to operate outside of the car is a big plus.

And the in built sat-nav is also good, and leaves less clutter on the dash.

Back to the thread, my friend ( ) is not convince Auriga have got anywhere near producing the final product, but he quite likes it.

He is compiling a nice list of suggestions/queries, but I think his main concern will be that a significant number of drivers will not, initially, be able to cope with it.

Which is a shame.

I have had 7 pdas on our fleet from auriga for at least 5 months & they work fine as far as the old drivers the new version is so simple any body can operate them they are as easy as the ct3000s if not easier as long as you can read they are very easy eg as soon as you log on you press plot on it puts you on plot where ever you are then its press pob - soon to clear- clear & your on plot again yes the sat nav can be a bit slow but that is the same for a lot of companies who use it alongside their software but the drivers who are using the pda say they never wanna go back to ct3000

Latest update is that the system freezes a bit too much, and maybe it should only be used via telephone waves rather than radio waves. Or doesn't that matter?

And still not convinced they will be able to be used by the old duffers.

like all pda system yes it does freeze but not had major problems with it like i said yes some people will struggle with it but if they can read it is very simple but some people will hate it cuz not all people like change but its very good for people who dont wana be tied to the car also it does have many new functions on it

I'd sooner have dataheads than the PDA's, as you all know the PDA work off the mobile phone network, if your in a bad area you'll lose the signal, I know data via radio has a short range but it's more reliable than the PDA system.

I would say both pmr & gprs are as reliable as each other yes their is more things you can achieve with a pda but data units are as reliable running on pmr u can lose gprs connection as well as lose landlines on pmr but its down to u & what is a viable option for your business

In the end any system needs to be able to guarantee coverage, and not to keep on dropping off the signal.

If you have to rely on the mobile network for coverage, then Sussex isn't the place for the CT Pocket.

Great features, but no good at present if you want to earn a living.

Can this be used in conjunction with a data head. You could use the data head in car and the PDA out of the vehicle so if you go in the house for a coffee or a bit to eat for example you don't miss anything

You can still put a data head on a break same as a PDA, if you want to go home just turn it off, I know of some drivers on our circuit who take their PDA to the toilet with them. How sad is that.?

I suppose you could, but isn't every other electrical product being made smaller and smaller, yet it appears for them to be able to work Data PDAs need to work with existing products.

I would say to anyone, try the PDAs out for six to twelve months in a few cars before you go fleet wide.
