He's a fine man, one I admire, I wish him only the best.

Well Mr A's thoughts and opinions seem to have created a thread and a half. :D

As I said at the beginning, I don't think I'll ever see a one tier Taxi service in London in my time as a London driver, and I'm quite young by London Taxi driver standards.

My take on it is that he's trying to create fear.....and thats going to be used to get a new association going.

Unfortunately there's a flaw in the [edited by admin] plan.....credibility.

Go and see Night collar ... that will bring a smile to your face.

lets have ONLY the iconic "london cab" as HC taxis anywhere in the UK, and anything else as PH. sorted

and your welcome to em...

OR, have "cars" (London/black cabs, saloons, hatch, estates) as HC where applicable and approved, and "mpv" (minibuses) as PHV.

trouble is the vito/E7,etc, are already approved as HC in many places, so that wouldnt work

Paint every PH vehicle yellow, then us hacks would know where you are at all times and what your up to

And All hacks to be black, regardless of vehicle type.

Meters to be fitted to both PH and HC

Then get the government to run an advertising campaign showing Jo public the difference, and what they can and cannot do.

It is correct at the moment that there is hardly any difference in vehicle types in most areas, so is it any wonder the public are confused.
We have to get our own house in order then inform the public

why should it be the HC point of view that takes precedence?

rather a concieted assumption that "HC's rule ok" isnt it?

why should i have to fit a meter when - as far as I know - very few LA's (if any) set rates for my kind of vehicle (hence "private" hire) and even fewer allow a multi-seater to charge more for a full vehicle when the alternative for the customer is two vehicles...

maybe HMG could send every PH and HC owner (not operator) a questionaire asking thier views................

all "taxis" should be black Lti's and leave PH to run anything else, THAT will stop the confusin

I forgot this is England your talking about,
In Scotland PH do have meters and most multi seaters charge fare and a half for more than 4 passengers, PH and HC alike

having all Lti or the equivalents would not work in 80% of the UK, basically they are designed for large towns and cities

the first line of conversation on most incoming calls is:-

"can you give me a price please................"

a quote is a contract in my book
