Perhaps they need to do a course in NVQ level 2 in 'how to play football, score goals and win'

Steve Carrol's a great bloke. I did my level 2 BTEC with him in 2007, at Kirby college, to get my St. Helens badge. I do have one question though; Some of you have mentioned an NVQ, how does that work? I did the level 2 BTEC award, but when I did the course, no-one mentioned an NVQ. Are the two courses related, or did one replace the other?

Also, for an NVQ, don't they need to assess you at work? How the hell do they do that with a taxi driver?

It's kind of related in so far as here if you do the NVQ you don't have to pay for the BTEC. The assessment is easy the assessor just sits with you in you taxi :D

What did you learn that you didn't already know?

I had to do the course before I got my badge, so I didn't know anything beforehand. I didn't learn anything that isn't common sense, though. It was worth doing, I met some other drivers that had been doing the job a good few years and got some decent advice. Plus the course was free when we did it, so I lost nothing by doing it.

Could somebody tell me what they would consider to be a good course for taxi drivers. It seems we complain that every Tom, Dick or Harriett can get a badge but when they implement some kind of training requirement we complain about that as well. If we are not complaining about the actual course content we are complaining that it takes up our time

The complaint seems to be that there is no standard course across the country, we have a mish mash of different courses from different companies.

At least with something like the DSA driving test you have something that appears to be interchangable, with the NVQ / BTEC / made up hogwash you may take a course in Carlisle then be faced with another different one in Brighton.

Its totally f*cking stupid and a complete waste of cash.

So if it was a uniform course and consistant throughout the country you would be quite content :D

Cab courses aren't needed, what is needed is a substantial knowledge test enccompassing an exstensive test of the laws under which we operate that is in addition to competent tests in the English language and numericy skills with a test on the ability to communicate with the passengers you carry. Suplemented with many other aspects of the job provision.
