IMO I think a mixed fleet of HC's should be available. If for e.g 60% were regular HC, 20% Saloons and 20% were WAV's that should cover most scenerios. Obviously there is going to be the question of who should be what but if it was regulated properly when you applied for the vehicle licence if the 1st 60% was full quota then it would be up to the council to inform the applicant that they could only licence one of the other 2 types of vehicle. The chances are the 20% saloon vehicles would be filled quickly thus leaving the WAV as the only vehicle were needs would have to be met. Having said that I don't think they would have too much problem filling that. Is there much cost difference between a WAV and a regular HC?

Who pays for what? Unfortunately the down side to this would be 1st come 1st served basis. In theory there are already a mixed fleet of vehicles on the road so you would renew under you current vehicle type and all new comers would have to decide between what was left. This is not going to happen overnight and councils could introduce things slowly whilst they iron everything out. The problem our council would face is were are they going to get 60% regular HC's from

I'm sorry but thats wrong.

You have one hackney plate but a plethora of vehicles that can attach themselves to one.

If you tell me I must buy say a TX4......and have the running costs of that vehicle, and purchase cost and extra fire insurance......how can I compete with someone who runs a Skoda Octavia?

The Skoda would have to be replaced more often and you know this. Why do people become HC's in the first place if cost was the only issue?

So the skoda is maybe changed twice, its still one third of the price and a good number of WAV owners change their vehicles just as regularly as saloon owners.

Perhaps they become HC owners so they wont be under the thumb of PH operators?

Perhaps so who knows. It's never going to be a level playing field and I don't know how they can make it more equal and fulfil the demands of consumers but it would appear that consumers have more clout than suppliers. If the consumers wants a mixed fleet then the supplier needs to supply what they want and work a way around things and all things will not be equal

I think to be honest the consumer hasnt got an awful lot of say in the matter.

I dont see a guy in the Scottish Borders changing his vehicle just because Mrs Miggins wants a WAV every thursday morning to go RTFC.

Its quite refreshing that the government seem to be looking at taxis and private hire from the perspective that they are complete b*stards though.

I like that approach

Oh well thats ok then ................ no need to do anything.

You and anyone else can do what they like, and I urge as many people as possible to reply to the consultation.

But posting rubbish like this is misleading and scaremongering.

This consultation could well lead to every single vehicle licensed as either a HC or PH being wheelchair accessible.
