You and anyone else can do what they like, and I urge as many people as possible to reply to the consultation.

But posting rubbish like this is misleading and scaremongering.

This consultation could well lead to every single vehicle licensed as either a HC or PH being wheelchair accessible.

If you are privy to the answers... before the end of the consultation... ????

60% were regular HC,
20% Saloons and 20% were WAV's that should cover most scenerios. Obviously there is going to be the question of who should be what but if it was regulated properly when you applied for the vehicle licence if the 1st 60% was full quota then it would be up to the council to inform the applicant that they could only licence one of the other 2 types of vehicle. The chances are the 20% saloon vehicles would be filled quickly thus leaving the WAV as the only vehicle were needs would have to be met. Having said that I don't think they would have too much problem filling that. Is there much cost difference between a WAV and a regular HC?

That 60% would be saloons thats what i class HC, a WAV would be E7 LTI

If mixed fleets of vehicles where introduced as HC, what would happen at ranks up and down the country is the public would go for any saloons on the ranks and leave the WAV HC sitting there.
This is due to the totally daft customer prerogative of being able to use any cab from a rank, this would need to be changed and made first car always, unless there is a WAV need and that vehicle is say 3 or 4 behind the punter then can go strait to it

There will be no perfect solution. Here we don't have saloons as HC's. If we actually had a standard regulation throughout the country this wouldn't be quite so difficult as we are we have standards that can be changed by local authorities so therefore there is only a minimum standard then there are all the 'upgrades' by local authority. It doesn't make this any easier. I personally believe that they will do whatever it is they want to do, but, I will be sending in my penneth worth and look forward to the hogwash reply that I'm sure I'll get :D

There is a solution, once you get beyond the 'what about meeeee' mentality, unfortunately this is one skip is unable to grasp.

Oh hang on ............... telling the truth about the options within the consultation is scaremongering and mis-leading.

However I suppose hiding the true facts as the results of this consultation may well lead to Mr Sussex's utopia of single tier ....................... but he won't really want that now he has become a taxi baron/ plateholding scum.

When you do it yes.

Why highlight something that's not going to happen?

Why not offer a solution or two rather than just say no to this and no to that?

When I do it?

What do you mean by that?

What you've just said is that when I tell the truth I'm scaremongering and misleading people ................. are you sure you want to stand by that statement?

You say that something contained within the options of the consultation is not going to happen ................. why wouldn't it and how can you be so sure it won't?

Or is this a case of I don't think it will happen so I'll claim it never will?

If you allow any possibility to not be possible then it is likely to become more probable.

For a solution then ............... write to the consultation panel and state that you are opposed to any change that removes choice from the members of the public who use our service, regardless of their physical or social standing.

Easy eh

Government unveils £37m for disabled travel

The government has announced it is to provide £37 million to be used to improve disabled access at UK railway stations.

Ramps, disabled parking, lifts and accessible toilets will be developed under the scheme, for which the Department for Transport has supplied £6.1 million.

Transport secretary Geoff Hoon unveiled the plans, which will see upgrades being made to 523 stations in England and Wales.

"We want disabled and elderly people to travel on the rail network more easily and in greater comfort and I am delighted to be able to announce this latest round of improvements," he commented.

Greater accessibility for trains may be beneficial for disabled employees, as it could help them travel to work.

In related news, the government has launched a consultation on how taxi services can be made better for people with disabilities.

Ministers are seeking feedback on how the vehicles and their facilities can be modified
