question is, did the customer declare he was self-employed at the time of purchase?

If someone is selling you something as an add on, the onus is on the seller to ask all the questions.

difficult to prove after the event though, how would you prove you were asked if you were self employed? unless a witness was available

I assume Echo15 bought a Lti/metrocab/E7,etc when he says he "bought a taxi"

So the salesman would obviously have known it was for business use BUT he is probably self-employed, but the point is it isnt the salesmans fault if GAP isnt available for self-employed, its company policy, the salesman didnt make a mistake.

as there should be a 7 day cooling off period maybe echo15 could go back on the sale?

You wouldn't need to prove anything, the salesman would.

Why would a self-employed driver knowingly pay for gap insurance that wouldn't cover him if the need arises? :?

"bought a taxi"

I said I bought a car that is going to be plated as a replacement for the car I have now.

It'll be on a Hackney plate with a meter and roof light as I was putting it through my books as a company vehicle the receipt had to have my trading name that's how he knew it was going to be used as a taxi.

Our council still allow saloons to be plated as Taxis at the moment

the point is he wouldnt know

we have 2 cases here

echo15 was told he couldnt have it and stinky pete was SOLD it but later discovered it was useless

the later is the bigger offence

(though im sure he could have found a way round that  )

Why don't you go to the library and brush up on your ignorance?
