I think I will leave my post as it is, and TBH it doesn't really matter wherever any of us are from, and IMO what we drive.

I happen to enjoy debating with folks who have different views to me, and I'm not sure this site would be where it is if we all supported one side of the big D debate and not the other.

So in short I wish more folks would come on TDO and tell me, and anyone else for that matter, where I'm wrong.

However what some people haven't quite grasped is that the biggest threat to the cab trade isn't the big D issue it's the 100% WAV issue.

Thankfully some of those I have had ding dongs with in the past are taking a very good lead on that subject, and I wish them well.

***k it's happened again, more agreement on something

iirc I was given a book on it all about it some ten yrs ago by one of my LO's, the way he put it to me was the government wanted the WAV's by 2012, but the local council could appeal to keep a mixed fleet if it wanted to, but that's all before the likes of Sepp Blater and Michel Platini decided to take over the whole of Europe so it could be a different story now, one thing I do know though is a WAV is fine for someone in a chair, it's not so friendly to older ppl who are still able to walk, albiet a bit slower than times past, I saw an elderly lady 65-70 smash her head on the roof of an E7 while getting in and collapse backwards and fracture her skull on the pavement a while back, ok you could say she should look what she was doing, but one thing for certain it wouldn't have happened had she been getting in a saloon car.

You'd have got a few quid from 'You've been framed' for that if you had your video camera handy

Don't exactly agree with the way Doom gets his point across but the man is right. If you want a plate buy one. They are only worth the money if there is work out there. If you de-reg there is no value 'cos there is no work

I wonder where Sussex's argument would be on council house purchases. It is where a lot of good, hard working, honest people got their foot on the housing ladder. They got a discount because they had paid their dues renting and therefore got their house below market value. Should they

(a) not be allowed to buy
(b) not pay for something they should have got for free
(c) none of the above everybody should be given one

I see it.

If I work for an owner who hasn't driven a cab in his life (put in there for dramatic effect).

Will I receive a discount should I want to buy....or will he sell it to the person with the most money?

The problem with the housing argument is that the houses were sold of too cheap and there was still an unmet demand for council houses when they sold them all off.

Councils due to government incompetence couldn't build more....even though there was a demand and people were sleeping on the streets or in more expensive rented accommodation.

Demand and supply?

Yeah but it wouldn't stop you from buying yours at the time. What I am saying is, would the 'moral' argument stop Sussex and co from buying theirs. Would they sell their parents ex-council house if it was left to them in a will or would they refuse to on the grounds that it was a free house in the first place and give it back???

If they got a ticket for the world cup final and it was England against Germany would they sell it on for face value or would they sell it for what the market will pay???

Supply and demand; Ebay would not exist if people didn't want to trade items for more than they are 'worth' ffs

Should councils refuse planning permission for any more houses?
Just in case it interferes with the private rent market?

Not sure houses are in the same boat as licenses, but I think selling council homes is wrong.

With all the comparisons between houses, football tickets, ebay and boats I had to go back a bit to find out again what was going on in this thread :?

I was trying to work out who agrees with what and then realised it doesn't matter. I would like to know though from revjim and sussex whether the areas they are from are de-reg or not. I'm sure it's on here somewhere but I prefer the shortest route so I'm asking.

IMO and I've said it before I think de-reg should be managed and I don't think anybody should be given more than one plate. Also I don't agree that a plate should be sold, whether it's attached to an old banger or stunning new vehicle :D
