Mr Oakes,

Since you arrival in Preston, for reasons of professionalism and integrity, we have attempted to distance ourselves from your desire to turn a dispute between our respective associations, into a public, personal slanging match! Indeed, we have strived to ensure an atmosphere of co-operation and cordiality. You seem hell-bent on causing damage and disharmony within the trade!

We recently distributed an un-solicited open letter to drivers, from the National Taxi Association.

In response, you have issued another scurrilous attack on PHCA and it's officers. At best it is disengenuous, at worst, downright dishonest!

We have come to accept that you have a tenuous relationship with the concept of truth, but as you will discover, the truth always comes out!

We will ensure this e mail is available to all!

We notice you have accused the NTA of taking sides. What you haven't done is told drivers the reasons why you no longer hold the much-cherished position of 'Secretary to Region 5 & 6 of the NTA'. It is because your conduct, particularily in Blackburn and Preston is incompatible with the role you previously held.

Additionally, despite committing to subscriptions of £1500-00 per-annum (bearing in mind your association boasts hundreds of members across the region), the money was not forthcoming!

We find it astonishing, that you are still trying to convince drivers, that PHCA is affiliated, or in some way, connected to your association.

Our solicitor (Thurnhills) closed the file 7 April 2008 and I quote from a letter of the same date 'I have been attempting to speak to the solicitor (GLP), having written and telephoned them on a number of occasions, they have not yet returned any calls or spoken to me. It would seem therefore they accept the position as we had set out to them'.

Given you stubborn, bull-headed reluctance to accept defeat, if there was one shred of legitamacy or democratic and constitutional value to you claim, you would have proven your case, in court if neccessary!

Even allowing for your overblown sense of self-importance, it defies logic and credibility, that Charlie Oakes is right while the following are all wrong;

PHCA,members and committee,
Preston City Council, Licensing Committee and Licensing Department,
Lancashire Evening Post,
GLP and Thurnhills (Solicitors)
Yorkshire Bank, Preston,
Yorkshire Bank, Legal Department ( Head Office)
and finally National Taxi Association and it's Directors!

You are not in a position to comment on PHCA membership past or present, I have full details, you do not!

In respect of the fare rise, 30 drivers voting on Deepdale car-park DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A MAJORITY VOTE! We spoke to the trade as a whole!

Having a position of authority within an organisation, even if self-elected as in your case, carries certain responsibilities to the very people you are respresenting (Hackney trade).

I will concede 'laughing stock' are my words but I have struggled to come up with a more apt phrase having read press releases from Bury Council.

Waging a public compaign against parking on ranks then acquiring 8 of your own, then losing in Court (15/8/08 ), attending magistrates court to represent a driver, running out of court and being threatened with comtempt of court 2/4/08 hardly puts the Hackney trade in a good light!

You maligned our decision to summarize Preston City Councils 'Draft Policy 2009-2012' and distribute a questionnaire! There is no evidence of you consulting the trade, once again, it appears the views of BBBPHA are the views of C Oakes!

We had over 100 responses (hardly a handful!) and met with Licensing on 16 December, they agreed the results were a compelling and persuasive mandate from the trade. This proved to be a foundation for productive negotiations.

If this means we are 'friendly with councils' well, guilty as charged!

We are committed to acheiving our aims by consultation, co-operation and negotiation. This is only possible with effective communication channels and mutual respect!

We will never accept your brand of sabre-rattling, chest-thumping posturing, followed by threats and intimidation!

Your letter is a disgrace, it is only a matter of time before you bring Prestons Hackney Trade in to disrepute. PHCA have been here for nearly 50 years and will be around for another 50, it is time for you to go!

Mark Selley- Secretary PHCA

i paid over £000, Then you said you had been sent £200 for preston i got the e-mail here edwards was it. so that made it £400.

now you say i am not the chairman, my paper work say i am, there say they are, we cant both so who is telling the truth.

your sarve.

Your maths is as bad as your english.

You committed Bolton to a large figure.......your not chairman of Preston.....and I don't think your licensed there so you cant represent them under the new rules anyway. :D

That's the email you allegedly sent? alledging misappropriation of funds? I didn't send it to you and you know about it?

I don't know what your motives are and I don't really care. You say you represent your members and that's fine. But do not lose sight of the bigger picture. If you are signing people up because you are going to represent them for nothing, even when they have comitted buggery to a disabled, mentally challenged donkey that's one thing. But you then have to represent them in all aspects of the trade in a responsible fashion and I am not sure that is your strong point
