well well here was me thinking you were someone who made a crust from working in the taxi trade (i thought you were part time) but it seems not so why dont you go away and leave the trade to the people who make the bread and butter from it.

it would be no problem for the don Ali he has money to burn and hide quality control may cost more but that nae problem as i said he can burn money.
PH companys here have a large number of company cars and they rent them out no problems as there is a endless supply of idiots who think there is a big pot of gold out there just waiting for them OH Dear

IMO what would drive them would be emmmmmm money by any chance lol

these taxis being on the road chip is what would make a difference to the cabbie on the street.

nothing else.

and as they wouldnt be on the street they wouldnt be a problem to the trade.

they may help the fictitious jockfather launder his pants.
but they have no affect on the trade.

unless you know different.

It wouldn't. He would need cabs to put them on and licensed taxi drivers to drive them, otherwise the money isn't laundered - it's wasted.
How many driver's would rent a cab, especially from a shady operator, when they could put their own on the road for far less money? Some would still rent, but far fewer than at present.

PH in most areas have no knowledge test, so drivers of these are much easier to come by.

A restricted market would be far more appealing to someone laundering cash.
Plates can be bought for cash with few questions asked, and sold on later for clean money.
Rentals would make a nice legitimate earner in the mean time.

Getting back to the new legislation, it will now be harder to launder money through a taxi or PH office, since records now have to be kept of every hire and the driver who undertook the hire.
Authorities now have the power to inspect these records and check the validity
e.g. Mrs Smith is recorded as having gone to Tescos in car 27, driven by Mr Jones. The police can now find out if there really is a Mrs Smith and if she did go to Tescos.
They can also find out if Mr Jones really did drive her.
That makes it much harder to park a licensed vehicle outside and pretend that the dirty money has been earned from it's operation.
Revenue/ DSS inspectors can now inspect driver records to see if those with taxi/ PH driver licences are actually working, while claiming unemployment or disability benefits etc.
They can even inspect the records of operators with one or two cars, who don't require a licence.

They won't listen Ali.
The Scottish government know what they want here and that's transparency.
They want to lift the rock from the taxi trade and see what is crawling underneath.
Like you, I doubt that there is a criminal mastermind to be found.
Plenty of ten bob gangsters and kid on hardmen though

you should try writing all youre fears and thoughts on the taxi trade down chip.

its sounds as though it would make a good novel,or at least a decent episode of taggart.

I wonder what happens if a taxi plate holder 'owns' more than three plates but rents them out ? There is no booking office as such
