Been talking to a pal of mine who's had 3 (three) timing chains on his 06.

It appears the problem is wear in the timing chain.
Because of the nature of taxi work, especially in London, the constant accelerating and stopping wears the chain and throws out the timing.
This is not a problem where the Ford engine is used in the Mondeo etc.

LTI are blaming Ford for the problem and Ford are arguing the engine was not designed for taxi work ie,owners loose out.

My knowledge of mechanics is similar to that of the board of LTI (I had a Meccano set one Christmas) but can a Metro Toyota engine (of which I have yet to hear bad word) replace the Ford engine?

TX2 where do I start?
owned 6 down to 2
one went back to LTI after 16 months cause it was a pile of garbage, they actually took it back it was either that or I drove it back to Holyhead Road and torched it

Water Pump's
Alternator's
Clutch dust from the break up of the ring gear with a starter motor, normally a new solid flywheel clutch and starter motor
Polyvinyl fuel lines that pin hole and lock out starting when you get air between the pump and fuel filter
Timing chains and timing chain case covers, adjusters on the continuous fan belt.
New one cylinder heads on high mileage ie 300k or above engines just had the head gasket done £750 thank you very much.
Cooling system leaks, the stupid brass valve behind the lower dash, what K Seal was invented for
And of course rotten body panels that go rusty within 5 years if you don't have the vehicle sprayed

Water pumps and alternators can go on any Cab.

My 1990 Fairway and my 1998 TX1 ate enough of them.

I think the main downfall of the TX2 is the internal chain and hydraulic tensioner and the external rubber belt and it's spring tensioner.

I've just accepted I'm going to replace them every couple of years using the money I used to spend on the annual overhaul when cab garages used to replace things that never needed changing in the first place.

These two items aside, mine's the best cab I've ever owned. (So far!)
