Dehli comes to the Midlands....

Wrong country; try Islamabad instead!

Allegedly, this was the initial requirement on 1st June, but this was quickly eased & now as long as the driver has a mobile Chip & Pin technology machine, it does not matter whether it is from ComCab, TOA, BASTA or an independent source, as long as the driver has the technology.

What about the reports that they will be required to wear uniform, is this true? If it is are there any problems regarding the uniform they may well be expected to wear.....

It's not a uniform.

It's a quite strict, but in my opinion not unreasonable, dress code, which I believe the airport wanted.

PTS are not unreasonable, but do draw the line quite high.

The dress code is tailored white shirt (which must be tucked into trousers at all times), black trousers & black shoes.

Optional are black jumpers or pullovers & black tailored coat.

NO 'street gear', which includes, but is not limited to;

NO trainers, jeans, denim of any sort, lumberjack shirts or tops, tee shirts, polo shirts, multi-coloured shirts, baseball caps nor any other funky headgear, with the exception of headgear of a religious nature (which obviously can be worn).

NO parkas, anoraks, military coats or any other multi-coloured top coat, etc.

NO tracksuit tops or bottoms, shell-suits

On my first day I turned up in navy trousers, white shirt with blue stripes & white slip-on tennis trainers. I was allowed to work on that day only, in those clothes & the next day I wore what was required and what I had signed up to wear under the Code of Conduct.

A day or two later two other driver signing up.

One was wearing jeans, multi-coloured tee shirt & black shoes. He was not allowed to work, so went to ASDA down the road, bought a white shirt & black trousers & was back in the feeder rank corral within an hour ready to work.

The other driver had shorts on & was wearing old trainers & half a tee shirt. He too was not allowed to work dressed like that & came back the following day correctly attired & started working there.

It's working; drivers at the airport are starting to take a pride in their appearance & that can't be a bad thing.

PH were only there in the first few days, purely as back-up if there were not enough cabs.

Cabs had priority!!!

PH stood in the corral about quarter of a mile away, out of sight. If there were no cabs in the corral or on the main rank a PH would be correctly booked & then ordered by PH despatch system to pick up the job at the back of the main rank.

The cabs would drive round these PH to the front of the rank to pick up until there were again enough cabs. Any already booked PH would continue to pick up their allocated passengers, but any PH that had come from the corral too early & were not booked would see the cabs work round them & would have to return to the corral. Cabs & PH were kept separate in the corral.

I stress this arrangement was in the early few days of the new contract & has not been used for well over a week, as there are enough cabs now.

One thing I will say about the PH firm that PTS chose as back up; their dress code was, tailored shirt & tie!!! No particular colours, but every driver looked smart. And no shirt & tie and you don't work for them at all, anywhere on their system, never mind the airport!!

PTS drivers don't have to wear ties, but some do. I'm not a fan of ties in this job, as they can be used as a noose in extreme cases of passenger bother.

As for wheelchair jobs; there are far more than you would think; probably about 25 a day.

When Emerates comes in, everything stops for that flight, so I'm not surprised.

But no one can stop outside the doors now as that lane is completely closed off now & has been for about 12-15 months.

I have about 8-10 clip on ties, but I still don't like wearing them because they look like something out of a cheap Christmas cracker. Proper ties look much smarter.

And the kerbs are at the standard height, so you still need ramps.

I have a number of Ties that I had tailor-made... they are joined at the back and will separate if somebody tries to strangle you.
