How come the cars that pick up the Emirates customers can go right outside the doors?

When Emerates comes in, everything stops for that flight, so I'm not surprised.

But no one can stop outside the doors now as that lane is completely closed off now & has been for about 12-15 months.

Well they go down past the taxis and stop outside the arrivals doors when I see them, there are 2 lanes and they use the same one as the taxis.

I'm not disputing that they use the same road where the new (12-15 month old) taxi rank is situated, but that is not right outside the terminals as it used to be before.

Next time you are at Birmingham Airport have a closer look.

The old road right next to the terminals is closed off permanently with 3 foot high round stainless steel bollards. Emergency vehicles can't use that road any more.

And that is where the old taxi rank used to be & it is still marked out.

As I said, next time you are at Birmingham Airport, go walkabout & you will see what I mean.

I know exactly what you mean but they can get even nearer than the taxis and a damn sight nearer than anyone else. WHY?

Yes that's true and only because it is Emirates.

As I said, everything stops for Emirates.

Birmingham Airport's legal team were at The High Court in Cardiff on Friday 19th June 2009 to try to overturn the injunction granted two days prior on Wednesday 17th June 2009 to Birmimgham & Solihull Taxi Association (BASTA), which allowed their drivers to continue working at Birmingham Airport alongside PTS drivers.

The decision of the High Court hearing in Cardiff brought by the airport to overturn the injunction, which was embargoed until yesterday afternoon, was that the airport were successful in overturning the injunction.

Consequently, NO BASTA drivers can work at the airport from midnight on Tuesday 23rd June 2009.

I was not at the airport to hear the decision being announced to the PTS drivers yesterday afternoon, but heard the news via jungle drums & other sources.

More to follow on this topic as I get more information.

This is now the end of taxi rank tyranny at the airport!!!

And about time too!!

Why was it embargoed? Does the law now allow a delay? :?

That was the judge's decision & a wise one too.

It allowed for a peaceful transition over a few hours to the position before the BASTA injunction & not an abrupt about-turn, which could have resulted in some unrest & heated exchanges on the airport rank & feeders.

BASTA (aka Birmingham Airport & Station Taliban Association) were supposed to be in the High Court again on Thursday & Friday just passed, but there has been no word whether they had arrived or whether there was even a hearing.

There is also supposed to be a hearing in the High Court on a date between 13th & 17th July, more specifically on 15th July, so I have been told. There are conflicting reports as to whether there is even a court date set.

If it does go to the High Court on one of those dates, then again there are conflicting reports as to whether there will be a Judicial Review or whether they will be applying for leave for a Judicial Review on one of those dates.

However, my own personal view is that BASTA may not even last that long, bearing in mind the following;

The last accounts for BASTA were for the year ended 31st December 2007, showing a loss of ......

£289,952, yes that's correct; a loss of Two Hundred and Eighty-nine Thousand, Nine Hundred and Fifty-two Pounds (ONLY)

The previous year ended 31st December 2006 showed a loss of approximately £105K.

The 2007 accounts (copy available by email request) had a heavily qualified auditors report running into almost two pages.

Those accounts also stated that the BASTA board of directors had advised the auditors that they expected to make further losses in the year ended 31st December 2008.

During a radio broadcast in the last few days it was stated that if BASTA did not regain the airport contract, they may not be able to continue.

In recent weeks the Company Secretary resigned & the Honorary Treasurer is reported to have been suspended, relieved of his duties or sacked WHILST ON HOLIDAY.

I would strongly stress that there are NO IMPLICATIONS WHATSOEVER OF ANY WRONG DOING IN THE CASE OF THE HONORARY TREASURER
.

However, TURMOIL, CHAOS, COMMOTION, DISORDER, and a GENERAL AGITATED STATE OF ORDER REIGN SUPREME AT BASTA!!!

Need I go on!!!

I have had a few days off but I have now been told that, 'the Pooh is really hitting the rotating blades of the fan' at the airport now.

The magical number of 300 cabs permits to work at the airport for 2009/2010 has now been reached & applicant number 301 onwards are now on the waiting list.

Those that thought PTS were bluffing when they said that they would limit the number of permits have had a very rude awakening.

Many thought it was their divine right to work at the airport, because in BASTA days it was & they thought nothing would change.

Well it has now!!
