They don't. :?

This thread was about the driver who sits in the Taxi for 9 hours, and how on earth anyone can bear working in this heat for that amount of time.

The passengers are in and out in half an hour, some stay longer when they realise its cold in the back of my Taxi.

Some stay in all the way to Stanstead on Sunday. 8)

It may have been about the driver until you stated the bit about the extra business because of your aircon.

Have a guess then Grandad.

Less cabs working because of the heat.

Me working in comfort when they're not.

Equals . . . . :!:

I've been running air con in my cars since 1995, at the time I had a Diplomat spec Vauxhall, it was the 1st time an affordable car with air had come my way, as I'd worked in garages in the 80's it wasn't a new thing to me and I knew once I could I would have it, anyway I feel on hot days the customer is more likely to tip if he's been made comfy for however long, at the time when I 1st got it, I faced the usual dunce comments of I have aircon I wind the windows down, and why do you want that it uses more fuel, I miss the sunroofs but I couldn't be without the air now.

I'm getting mine re-gassed today at a cost of £20. I like to do them once every 2 years. For £20 you get it all re-gassed, new oil in the pump, new tracer liquid and a temprature drop of a few degrees inside the car. It takes about an hour to do but it will be well worth it when the idiots on the rank who don't have their aircon units serviced start blowing hot air out instead of cold air.

remember to use AC at least twice a week through the cool/cold times to keep the compressor lubricated and compress the gas

My mate Derek called me last week, asking where I had my Air Con serviced.

(Daves Taxis - Bohemia Place if anyone is interested)

'It's broken down' he said, worried about how much a new compressor was going to cost.

I asked him when was the last time he had it gassed up since he bought it 5 years ago.

'Do you have to re-gas it?' he says.

Taxis/PH apart, if you have a bigger vehicle, a camper, etc and want cooling without the engine running you can have a Viesa system fitted

a lot of truckers have this especially when doing european/spain/italy as it can be left on whilst they sleepover

bout £1000, I spoke to a Renault Magnum owner whose AC was gonna cost £1750 to fix so he had a Viesa installed.
