Mark, I know for a fact locally, everyone who owns a Kebab House or Curry House would apply for a license if they were able to under dereg, and here that's a lot of extra plates I can assure you.
Why don't they put on 100s of PH if the pickings are so good?
Err hello, they have, thats how I know what would happen, I think there are around 900 PHC's right now, there's no work now the students are away, and even when they are here it still ain't that good, I'd love you to come work here for a year, all that you know from your area would be no use to you, you'd find yourself asking the question wtf am I doing, especially when you realised you were getting £4.50 for a job where you are would go £7, most popular phrase to come out of a PH punter is ..... It's £2.60, it's always £2.60, one reason I bought a plate (only it was £1.80 back then) and the major reason I don't ever wish to have a radio in my car ever again, one straggled it's way drunk to my mate a few days ago, min fare on PH after 10pm is £3.40, in a Hack it's a boot off of £2.60 but it soon overtakes the PH rate, anyway Milly the Minx the most sought after bit of totty circa 1943 tells him it's only a couple of quid to where she's going, yes thats right, a punter expecting to pay £2 for a cab ride at 00:30am, and they all know the fare less the try it on discount, that's £3.80 luv, it was only £3.60 yesterday.
Oh for christ sake I need to retire from this, when you add up what you earn, and pay out, and the crap you have to listen to to get it, it just ain't worth it, I remember my 1st days as a cabby, it was heaven, free from tossers in suits wanting the earth for £1.50p ph, it even got to the stage where I'd rather work a weekend at night because it was so much fun, like being out and getting paid for it, where did those days and ppl go to.
