So by definition what exactly is plying for hire!

Driving with your light on is defo plying for hire, within or outside of your manor. So really IMO the lights should go off outside.

Same as above but being parked up.

IMO advertising in a mag isn't plying.

Were there any for hire lights in 1847 or were they just signs?

I think it's the other way around and his home district is giving him grief.

sadly im getting more accurate as i get more cynical

you could get a 0845 or 0800/0500 number or even a skype number and divert any to your mobile number, lets see the grass (or your LO) try to put a location on that

Today I have received a written caution from the LO who interviewed me.

'As we discussed, you are allowed to pick up anywhere as you hold a HC licence but the law is quite precise in that you are not allowed to advertise as operating from your home address. You may only take bookings from an area in which you hold a licence,i.e. anywhere in the Derby City Council area. This means that calls or bookings must be taken in that area only.Whether or not you drive through that area is academic, the actual offence is committed by advertising as operating from your address. The written caution means should you be seen advertising,or operating in this area unlawfully, you may be prosecuted for any future offences.
Derby City Council will be advised of this as you are registered with them.'

So,does this mean I need to lose the home number then?
Opinions welcome, especially lawfully correct ones!
Regards
Derby Ram

It certainly looks that way. Everything has to be all in the same area

My home address is my operating address. My limousines are advertised in the yellow pages in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. I also used to advertise in Lincolnshire and Northants.

Aren't all your licenses in the same area though under the one authority :?

Quite precise? :?

There is no law relating to taxis taking bookings, so you can't be in breach of a non-existent law. Ask them to clarify their precision.

In relation to PH advertising, if that's what they are indicating, then http://www.taxi-driver.co.uk/phpBB2/vie ... php?t=4661 is a precise bit of law the council have missed.

why are we so overseen by such archaic laws?

internet
radios
mobile phones
newspapers
magazines

none know or recognize borough, district or county borders
