Perhaps we could put maximum load signs on our windows like they do in elevators

That may be a good idea except you would need to carry a set of scales around to weigh people before they get in. After all is someone who weighs 30 stone going to tell the truth about their weight?

bit hard to hide though...

The Golightly's

I saw one cabby claim off an Indian takaway owner some years ago, she took him to the cash and carry and he bought up so many bags of rice and tins of cooking oil it did her suspension in.

What'd happen if they couldnt get a seat belt to fit them??

I think as an adult it's your decision to wear the seatbelt and therefore you who gets the fine. The driver isn't doing anything illegal.

In a cab with partition yes, in a PH car or saloon taxi the driver would also get fined.

Are you sure the drive would get fined if it was an adult who chose not to wear their seatbelt?

If that IS the case then you just point-blank refuse the hire and tell them, in private, why.

That's what I thought. I'm sure the law was changed so that adults and not the driver are responsible for their own seatbelts.

Road traffic law isn't devolved.

Some rather large woman got in my motor a few weeks ago, she sat in the back when all of a sudden there was this almighty BANG, I knew straight away a spring had gone. I pulled up and had a look under the rear off side and I was right she's busted a spring, 1 hour off the road and £40 lighter.

40 pounds doesn't seem that heavy
