I had a telephone conversation with Kevin Woodburn of ECPH earlier where we discussed some of the statements I made, not in the web page linked to above, but in the post linking to it.

He assures me that, contrary to my statement "No action has ever been taken by ECPH against drivers illegally picking up," ECPH has disciplined, and on occasion reported to the Cab Inspector, drivers found to be "seagulling." I accept that the information given to me previously was wrong and, accordingly, I apologise for my misleading words. Similarly, I have to accept that, at the moment, I am not privy to all of the submissions made in support of ECPH's application for additional signage, so I should not have commented about what they have or have not mentioned.

However, the main thrust of my post was, and remains, my belief that any additional signage on PHC would do little or nothing to address the issue of women's safety; removal of PHC sitting and/or touting in public places would. As I said, I believe that this is purely an advertising gimmick using the issue of women's safety as a launching pad.

After reading the page on Fastblacks and the submissions publicly available, everyone can make their own minds up and either ignore the issue or write to the councillors to express their (not my) views.

Anything that ensures the right customer gets into the right booked vehicle surely has to be a good thing.

And why shouldn't they be able to advertise their company?
