Drug dealing taxi driver must pay £130,000

A SHEFFIELD dealer who planned to flood the city with class A drugs has been ordered to pay back more than £130,000 to the authorities.
Taxi driver Ilyas Hanif, aged 42, was locked up for eight years after he was caught with heroin worth £330,000 stashed in his car.

He was stopped on the M1 by officers from the Serious Organised Crime Agency in August 2006 and they discovered six kilograms of heroin hidden in 12 parcels in a rucksack in the boot of his car.

Hanif was arrested alongside Asif Younas, Bakish Khan, Niaz Khan and Sajid Rasul and charged with conspiring to supply heroin.

During a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing at Sheffield Crown Court a judge ruled Hanif, of Ellerton Road, Firth Park, had benefited from his crimes to the tune of £130,804.54.

He was ordered to pay the money back within six months by Judge Roger Keen QC or to go to jail for a further two years and two months.

At his trial in 2007 Sheffield Crown Court was told Hanif had collected the heroin from Rasul i n Luton and was arrested as he drove back to Sheffield.

Hanif and Bakish Khan, then 28, of Firs Hill Road, Pitsmoor, were found guilty following the trial. Rasul, 33, of Newark Road, Luton, Niaz Khan, 27, of Scott Road, Pitsmoor, and Younas, 28 of Barnsley Road, Fir Vale, all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply.

Rasul was given eight years and Niaz Khan was handed 10 years. Younas was jailed for 15 years and Bakish Khan for a total of 19-and-a-half years.

Khan later had his term cut from 17 years to 15 years and Asif Iqbal Younas had his reduced from 15 years to 13 years and six months.

I'd like to think he'd never get his taxi licence again but that's not a certainty as previous criminals of the same ilk have been given them before
