8 and under will be under the LA just as they are now but the seating capacity of vehicles licensed as either private hire or hackney will be reduced and all seats will need to be forward facing.

There was no mention of which way a wheel chair will have to be carried.

People carriers will be restricted to 5 passengers and depending on certain dimensions saloons will be limited to either 3 or 4 passengers.

Where does it say that?

So where would that put proprietors & drivers of the now very popular Peugeot E7 & similar 6/7/8 Hackney cabs.

Conversely, if they do bring in a 5 seater maximum passenger limit on Hackneys, then are they trying to get more fares for the Hackney (& PH for that matter) trades?

So, if 6, 7 or 8 passengers want to travel together, they would have to hire two licensed vehicles.

They are already licensed as either PH or HC, they are outside the remit of VOSA.

I didnt see any mention of the number of seats?

Utter nonsense....if its 8 or under as it is now with the LA, thats all it ever was...no change at all.

Ive seen no mention anywhere that they intend such a ridiculous move. More so in these emission friendly days of more people using one vehicle...an 8 seater is a very useful tool in the fight against Co2 emissions, it certainly beats taking 8 in a 16 seater or 8 in two 4 seaters...

They just couldnt pull such a stupid stunt as banning anything with 5,6,7 or 8 passenger seats from being licencesed under one type of licence or another..so if it aint Vosa then that only leaves LA,s

Half the school runs in Britain would cost twice as much because of them needing 2 vehicles instead of one.

Please show me the proof first...

Believe what you like but some councils already only license people carriers for 5 passengers. The person that has been bringing this to our attention is on the limochat forum as Proff. He has some very good contacts and is usually correct with his information. Feel free to contact him, I am sure he would be able to give you the details. He is also a member of this forum but has never posted.

A number of councils have insisted the galaxy (for example) must have one of the middle row of seats taken out to make passenger egress easier. Which is one thing.

But and its a rather large but, I have never heard of any LA ban the bob down seats on TX's or E7's.

As the chap is a limo guy, I suspect its a case of enthusing the masses in the taxi and Ph trades onto VOSA's case?

Incidentally, I have a number of contacts myself.....and they aint said anything

He can post if he wants to or not...I just want to see where it as written proof positive from some genuine source..and not hear chinese whispers from someone from the Limochat forum. If what you say were true then you Limo guys would be up in arms...and it doesnt look that way to me.

Besides...why would the Proff want to keep it a limochat secret..it just doesnt add up.

There is a limousine meeting in Scotland tonight regarding the VOSA/DTI removing the under 9 passenger license. Another meeting is planned for Birmingham next week, there will be othersas well. The NLcA are heading up a campagne to see if anything can be done about it. From a personal point of view, in the short term I don't have a problem with VOSA no longer licensing 8 seat and under because my limos are all private hire licensed. I do however have concerns regarding the problems with councils having to downgrade the seating capacity of cars because apart from my limos I also have 2 people carriers.
I can't remember the details from Proff but I am sure it has something to do with the EU enforcing more rules and councils will have to fall into line.

It will leave them exactly where we are at present as no change to taxi/PH rules will take place ever, in relation to the eight seats maximum.

I repeat it will not happen!

No vehicle will be licensed for WAV work unless they can sit WAV customers facing towards the front or the rear. No side sitting is allowed now nor will be in the future.

Do you have to be a member of a Limo organisation to attend the meeting in Brum & when & where is it?

I suppose I could blag my way in as Michael Jackson ex-chauffuer.

Joking apart, it would be interesting to listen.

No you don't need to be a member of the NLcA to attend. All are welcome. The details are as follows.

The next one will be held on the evening of Wednesday March 17th 2010 at The Crowne Plaza Hotel, Pendigo Way, Birmingham, B40 1PS starting at 7:30pm.
