Taxi Driver Online

Received one of those nasty nips, about three weeks ago, stating that I had been caught on camera speeding, at 38 in a 30.

Got me on film, and everything, sending a form that I MUST fill in declaring who was driving at the time, on pain of a £1,000 fine if I did not fill in the form within 28 days.

I don't speed. But I was driving on Hykeham Road at the stated time and place. I was not speeding, but how to prove?

Today I received a cancellation of the ticket, and an apology for any distress and inconvenience caused.

Told y'all I don't speed, so how did the ticket get cancelled?

Without an expensive lawyer, or even going to court?

And no, Skippy, I did not plead insanity....

No. The camera in question was a "Truvelo" permanent fixture.

They take a photo of vehicles as they travel towards them, and also of the offending driver.

The older, "Gatso" style speed cameras take a photo of the rear of an offending vehicle, but do not identify the driver.

So, why would the police demand that I identify the driver of the vehicle that I am the registered keeper of, if they had a photograph of him (or her?) Or face a fine of £1,000, which means you do NOT have the right in law to remain silent, a national disgrace, many say.

So, I was travelling AWAY from a camera that pings speeders travelling TOWARDS it.

So check the details in that ticket, and query it.

Firstly, do you remember getting the flash? If you were travelling towards the camera and you were flashed you would know about it. Or were you actually travelling away from the camera? If you were travelling away from a truvelo camera they probably cancelled the ticket because that is not how the camera is designed to work and they probably couldn't prove your speed.
If the picture is from the front your face should be recognisable but the police won't have a picture of you to compare, unless there is something you want to tell us?

Truvelos are able to enforce from front and rear, but only one way at a time. They have a magenta flash that won't necessarily been seen in daylight.

ALWAYS ask for pictures to 'help indentify the driver.' Then you can see how good the ping is. They do make mistakes.
