The perverts mode of operation was posing as a Phc driver, to lure, vulnerable young women into his car. The fact is, without Ph, tripling in numbers over the last 10 years. There wouldn't have been the same opportunity for him to execute his crime. The taxi trade has allowed, if not actively encouraged, a huge increase in Ph making it easy for the Pervert.

My view on this is why is always someone else's responsibility?

What happened to the notion of personal responsibility?

This girl's friends allowed her to become detached from the rest of the group - isn't it their responsibility?

Yet I'm sure Jimbob will be claiming it's all the "corrupt council and taxi trade", no one is out shouting it's all the fault of her friends or the nightclub who sold her so much alcohol that she ended up in a situation no one would ever want to find themselves.

Even if anyone had been passing and available, are there that many drivers who would have picked her up in that state?

The public have to take responsibility for their own safety, and stop looking for others to blame.

Still no answer to this one Jimbob yet on another thread you're encouraging this victim to sue the council - why not her friends or even the bar who served her all that alcohol - after all it's an offence for bar staff to serve any customer who is clearly intoxicated.

Come on Jim - let's have some "reasoned debate" on the specific points raised above.

Because it IS the council's responsibility to ensure public safety. By restricting taxis they are placing the public in some additional danger. Unless and until they derestrict they can't claim to have done everything possible to ensure public safety.

We don't know whether a derestricted would prevent such incidents. So let's do it and find out.

You couldn't make it up

Just as I thought I'd seen the best with jimbob defending private hire Jim starts wanting the suck it and see aaproach to legislation.

So why not try some other policies on that basis. If anyone wants to add to my list feel welcome to post them, but here's a few to start with.

Abolish street traders licenses and planning constraints - so ice cream and chip vans galore (especially outside fatboyJim's house)

A prostitution tolerance zone outside Jim's house

A second hand nuclear power plant at the Mvrray's Brae (next to Jim's hoose and the word censor)

A happy slappers charter to be introduced - so long as the results are posted on yatube (the jim taylor version of youtube) - cash rewards for featuring JT.

Derestriction of taxi fares - fares to be charged and obtained only at ranks on a dutch auction basis (this excludes Skull as he gets a bit punchy)

I'm sure others will come up with more

That'll be you off on one then? Can't understand a simple argument so you employ the smokescreen of stupidity.

Read the argument again and when you're up to speed, come back into the class.
