We use XDA orbit, XDA orbit II, Xda Guide, HTC P3470 and never had a major problem. Once in a blue moon we might get a PDA/screen freeze up but that is easily fixed by a soft reset.

The way i look at things is its not much the hardware that causes the problem its the software that drives the hardware which causes the issues.

We have seen many PDA's at the coventry show, they all use similar devices powered by HTC so the question to ask is why does the same unit freeze up on some people and not on others?

Can i ask which systems to you use at least this way we can work out who we should avoid if we wanna make money rather than trying to sign in every few hours.

We use Cordic and i can honestly say drivers love the PDA's, the interface is simple and very driver friendly.

If they run on the same software why are they always crashing and freezing??

Yeserday one of the goons from Excell was up at our office trying to sort something out    He said "the system doesn't freeze I've never known one to freeze". All of a sudden it froze, he said "I've never seen that happen before?

There you go mate your super duper system freezes and locks everyone out.

If you want to earn less money and do more miles and run about like your arse is on fire buy Mercury from Excell.

We switched to Mercury from Autocab 6 months ago.
We had ocassional problems with PDA's crashing, it certainly seems to have settled down now. We get maybe 2-3 a week crashing, but soft reset or ocassionally pulling battery works.
Strange thing is we haven't had an awful lot of problems with the Mercury system itself. Once or twice we have had hires disappear totally off system, but alert operators have spotted and rectified, but thats about it.
Its not perfect but at moment it works okay (Mercury 2 due for release shortly i believe).

I love HTC ......as phones.

I use them because they come with windows mobile so are directly compatible with my PC. I've never used one as part of a despatch system.

However, I think expecting 3-4 years life from them in a taxi environment could be ambitious. I'm currently on a 2 year contract which will be the longest I have ever had a phone for. Modern consumer electronics are not built with longevity in mind, IMHO. I'm praying my phone lasts that long.

System should determine the refresh rate.
I've set our Mercury to 5 seconds
