55 jobs to be created in city taxi firm expansion

A GLASGOW company which specialises in the production of wheelchair-friendly cabs is to create 55 new jobs as it expands its business.
Allied Vehicles today announced it intends to increase employment at its Possilpark factory to more than 300.
The £700,000 expansion involves the purchase of additional premises on Balmore Road and investment in new equipment.
The plans are being backed by £175,000 of Regional Selective Assistance.
Deputy Enterprise Minister Allan Wilson said the Scottish Executive was delighted to be able to support the company and the creation of the jobs was good news for Glasgow and Scotland.
Allied Vehicles manufacture the Peugeot E7 Taxi and adapts a range of vehicles, including minibuses for wheelchair use.
There has been growing demand for the cabs partly because of increased awareness of new Disability Discrimination laws.
In March this year, the company beat rivals worldwide to win a deal to supply a fleet of 40 wheelchair-friendly taxis to Bermuda.
The £1million contract was the firm's first export order. A GLASGOW company which specialises in the production of wheelchair-friendly cabs is to create 55 new jobs as it expands its business.

I'd rather have a fleet of E7's than some of the deathtraps that are out there.
