Last night making my way for a pick up at Waverly station at around 3.10 AM I was waved at so many times I lost count, folk even tried to get in front of me to stop me, Pulls up on Waverly bridge and half the population descended around my cab desperate to get home, one guy even tried to force a fifty squid note at me to take him to Cameron Toll
I locked my doors while waiting for my 3.30 booking, that luckily turned up 5 mins early
On my journey to the station I turned into one of the roads I had to take and there was a guy battering a woman good and proper with hands and feet, I wound my window down and aimed my camera phone at him and told him to leave her and that the police where on there way, that stopped him in his tracks, I pulled down the road and seen a group of guys and told them what was happening about 150 yards away and they went after him :D

You could provide 10,000 cabs at that time of night and there still would not be enough, same all over the land.

The point I was making is that first you have to encourage the drivers to work nights & that usually means a good night tariff.

That does two things; one it increases the number of drivers that come out to give a service & two it decreases the number of people that want the service, because some think it's too expensive & walk!!

According to the 2001 census 450,000 people lived in Edinburgh.

Are you telling us 225,000 people surrounded your cab last night?

Damn they must have been looking for that 25% discount in a really big way.

Was the guy that tried to force a £50 quid note at you demanding a discount too?

I cannot remember the exact figure of how many cabs they have but 1200 rings a bell, now consider that there is around 20,000 (small way out estimate) folk out at different venues, and they all want one when they come out, yet there are night buses running empty waisting folks council tax in bus subsidies, all because the bus goes nowhere near there front doors
Que's at every rank some folk being there for nearly an hour this can happen 3 or 4 nights a week.
It is no good saying more cabs need to work nights when some only work days due to other commitments or family, so out of those 1200 you could loose 400 leaving 800 to cover a city the size of Edinburgh
I know the place is saturated with PH but they cannot stop at the overflowing ranks or for wave downs

20,000 passengers!!! if they all go in seperate cabs then that is only 25 jobs per car. So where is the problem?

So you arrived at 3.10 for a 3.30 booking which turned up 5 mins early. That gives you 15 minutes on one night and from that you tell us that folk wait up to an hour 4 or 5 days a week!!!
Edinburgh has nearly 1300 taxis most are looking for these non-existent queues that you say re there. Maybe there are queues on saturday and to a lesser degree a Friday night for an hour or so but that's it.

Stick to sheep and 'roos, Skippy, they're easier to count and obviously give you greater pleasure.
