Hi all,

I've been searching for 3 years to find a good affordable CCTV option for cabbies..

Finally, I've found a supplier in China whith a unit that has a rear view mirror with a LCD screen, a camera and a storage facility. Also has the ability to fit a second camera.

If I buy in bulk, I'm hoping to get the price down to about £185.

It's a simple DIY fit too..

Any opinions...
Who am I kidding.. with you lot... 'corse there's opinions...

I'll bet that not all LA are the same as yours. The LA here do not approve any system. It is down to drivers and owners to fit whatever they like.

As long as the hard drive is accessed by a competent person like a CCTV control room officer or a Police officer I can't see there being a problem as to what system you can fit.

I see what you're referring to. The London LO released an official guide early this year which is very stringent.
The main points being that the unit shouldn't be able to playback recordings and that it should over right recordings after 31 days.
I suspect it can playback. But I would think you'd only need to glue the play button to disable the facility. And it does over right.
To be honest, I m going on theory. I haven't had one delivered yet.
BUT... For < £200... Bargain
And perfectnas a deterrent ...

I discovered a really good one a few years back. Think it was called cabsmart. That was fully complient with all sorts of regs.. In fact, when I met up with the Sales director Roger, I helped him quash a handfull of 'design issues'.
they sent me a demo model and to be honest, it was ugly, intrusive, looked like a toy and there was no screen. So the detterrent eliment was gone.
The quality was dvd standard.. A bit of overkill really..
And then the price.. £6.50 per week... And a 3 year committed contract.
When all we want is something to make the pond life question their behaviour...
