There is talk that diesel could be up to £1.50 a litre by the summer due to oil prices rising
If it does how will those with tx cabs cope at an average 24 MPG and cannot get fare rises to compensate???

skippy do the maths fuel accounts for 15 to 20% of the take so even a 20% hike in fuel costs isn't going to suddenly bankrupt every cabby in the land just put a dent in the profits there should be enough of a margin to absorb such a rise but it will mean less money available after the bills are paid for lifes luxuries

But if your council wont give you a fare rise to compensate your the looser in the end, mind you so will the tax man

fuel inc DUTY is now (pre vat rise) 106.30 PLUS vat at 17.5% = 124.90

with vat at 20% = 127.56 (rounded up tp 127.99)

so 3p/ltr more, i top up twice a week 50ltrs x 2 = 100 = £3 more per week

BUT im vat regd....

Plus ill get a 3% rise in april off the education which will cover it

Road fuel is always taxed at the standard rate. VAT is collected on the total amount due for the fuel, including any excise duty. The standard rate of VAT in the United Kingdom was 17.5 percent as of August 2010. This is set to increase to 20 percent on Jan. 4, 2011.

I think you might find the 18.01p figure quoted is the VAT content of 120.9.

why worry?

the more you pay for fuel, the less profit you make, the less tax you pay and the more tax credits you get!
