Am I right in believing that Station Taxis have the management rights over the Hackney rank at York station ? AND............... if a private hire firm from York/Leeds or anywhere else were to tender for those rights, it would be that company that then had management rights over the Hackney rank and.....in turn.... control of the permits !
It would seem to me that Amber cars would use their own privat hire drivers from Leeds to pick up pre-booked jobs and work from the Railway operators while York Hackneys will have to pay for a permit to use the Station rank ??? Unless they install an Amber cars radio at extra cost. No change at all then to the way things are at the moment is it ?
BUT...... Amber Cars will have a loyalty to their drivers and preference for radios will go to them. The cream of the contract work will be private hire cars from Leeds and ONLY the rank will be open to York Hackneys !! No more LD's for York Hackneys !!! They have the management rights of the rank !! No real change for the independents, but those who currently pay for a station radio will all find themselves as independents too !! End of Station Taxis !! And a Leeds PH firm have a foothold in the York Taxi trade !! As if it is'nt hard enough already !!

Your not far of the mark but you would find all the cars in the station would have to have a Amber radio in and i would imagine amber cars would offer exsisting pemit holders the choice of this first.
1 To make sure they have enough cars to cover there costs+extras
2 Its far easier then all there Leeds drivers having to pass the taxi test

Yes, my thoughts entirely, all their drivers would have to licensed by COYC having to go through the new applicant process so they will have to use York drivers.
Then again of course this could all be a ruse and they have no interest whatsoever in coming to the station

Not so Mr Ears, lets just suppose they were all out of area hackneys who only undertook private hire work.

First bit of reality I've seen commented from York for a while.

having this lot in york would be problematic ,i lived in leeds until recently and know for a fact they scoop any job from the street or next to a hackney rank - some parts of leeds near the nightclubs / takeaways etc is basically an unauthorised PH rank with dozens of amber cars waiting.

if they come here then it isnt just station taxis who will suffer - its everyone everywhere
and they will more than likely flood the place with drivers from leeds who dont know there way around , speak very little english and taxi licensing will not have the resources to enforce against illegal plying etc.

the people of york are fairly conservative and very "english" so being driven about by outsiders will not be acceptable
total unmitigated disaster is forecast

I don't think that could be possible as Amber cars are private hire in Leeds.

They would have to use York badged PH drivers no?

as I have said,be very afraid, Amber cars are not just from Leeds , type in google "ambercars"

the outcome could be that York Stn taxis could beat the tender by bidding higher and over bidding , which would increase costs for drivers at the station if Stn Taxis fail, every York driver is doomed
