. . . . drive a car in the UK with a speedometer registering in kilometres per hour as the main display and miles per hour as the small subsidiary display?
Please state your references when replying as this is a live situation.
From Construction and Use Regulations:
Save as provided in paragraphs (2) and (3), every motor vehicle shall be fitted with a speedometer which, if the vehicle is first used on or after 1st April 1984, shall be capable of indicating speed in both miles per hour and kilometres per hour, either simultaneously or, by the operation of a switch, separately.

Well I've just spoken to the guy that owns the car, which he bought when he was in South Africa and then imported it to the UK via the Republic of Ireland. I read out your post to him
The car only displays kilometres per hour and there is
NO subsidiary display showing miles per hour!
But the best bit is that the car passed the MOT today, despite the guy telling the garage that the speedometer only registers in kilometres per hour!!
