Last week a shedload of signs were put up at EMA warning of no stopping for pick up/drop off especially in the area before the entry barriers but also all round the service road.They warned of CCTV and a £100 fine being issued.
So,is this legal because to me it smacks of cowboy clamper syndrome?
The £100 is so over the top.
What would happen if you refused to pay?Would it be court or a debt agency?
Just curious,I'm a good lad who picks up in the right place but rip off Britain really irks me.

The thing is punters ring once they switch thier phones on, before getting thier luggage off the carousel, before passing Customs, before crossing the road/lanes to the collection point, all enough time to rack up more than the basic charge to you to get in and out, donnington services is barely 5 minutes away, let em wait, they probably had to wait in whichever airport they left from even without french air traffic control strikes, whats 5 minutes?

We tell them to ring AFTER they have collected their luggage.

As per this and another thread (wouldn't let me post) the offence is commited by the DRIVER of the vehicle and not the owner.

Unlike speed cameras the owner is under no obligation, and private firms have no legal powers to compel the owner to, divulge information as to who was driving the vehicle at the time of the offence.

All you have to do is write to the firm stating you were not the driver and all further correspondence should be addressed to them (the driver) instead. And that all future communications regarding the matter will be ignored. Applies to private land and private firms only.

Of course the firm could go to the courts to get a subpoena(?) to get the owner to reveal the driver but so far this has never happened.

Better still, add into the letter words to the following effect;

'Should you continue to write to me regarding this matter, you will be invoiced for each and every letter I send in reply. My charges are as follows;
£25.00 per letter up to 100 words.
£15.00 per each 50 words or part thereof, thereafter.'

And invoice the barstewards!!!

why all the fuss?

the PRIVATE property in question has "no parking" - thats the owners prerogative isnt it?

so park elsewhere

you dont have the right to trespass

Private parking tickets are a scam and can be safely ignored.

Funnily enough Wannabee,running an airport transfer business I have worked out how to pick punters up!!
I always pick up in the car park as instructed.

My question was 'Is it legal?' and the signs don't say No PARKING they say no STOPPING to pick up/drop off.I was just curious as to how they could enforce this.
I guess at the end of day,whether they got the £100 out of you or not they could ban you from the airport.

If you receive a ticket file it in the bin, along with any other correspondence from the company, never reply to them

Depends on whether the land is private or public.
If private land then they can put up whatever signs they like, but I doubt they'd have any standing in court. If it's public land then the signs have to be of an approved type and covered by a TRO (Traffic something Order). If non-approved signs or no TRO then they cannot be enforced.

Don't know how they can ban you from the area short of having some guy with a clipboard checking all registration numbers.

At the end of the day they can have signs requesting you not to stop/park but not a lot they can actually do to stop you - short of threatening private fines which they can't enforce.

Round here at the airport since the terrorist attacks all vehicles have been stopped from the terminal entrance (except the hack permit holders). If you go to the entrance some bloke comes running up and tells you not to park there 'ok you say', he then says you have to move, 'ok you say' and then you sit there toing and froing while he keeps asking you to move and you dont'. Not a lot he can do. Eventually the passengers turn up, you load and go.

At EMA it is easy for them to stop you entering the car park. The camera at the barrier checks your number plate and if you are on the banned list they will not let you in. Before the current changes, if you entered the area once, you could not enter again for 30 minutes.
