Licence has run out by four days and the taxi was still working the ranks.

car was reported to council and cab office on the 4th day and the plate was recalled on the 5th day. less than 1 week later the car has been retested and is out working the ranks this week again.

1. because the car has an expired licence then this means that the car has no MOT and thus an invalid insurance cert...

2. why was the licence re-granted to the vehicle if it had run out. our understanding of the trade is there is an expiry date and once it runs out then it should be recalled and the licence binned for that owner. thats why you get a test date for the car 1 month before the end of your licence so that you have time to do any repairs and get the car ready for test.

3. working an unlicenced car . if he takes the chance to drive around the public in an unsafe , uninsured car, the driver has no legal right to pick up any fares . does this make him a unfit and proper person ?

feel free to discuss ..

would like genuine input please

If the license has run out then it could have been re-issued, but clearly the bloke re-licensed it before it was.

However some times cars are off the road for mechanical or body work issues, so would it be fair to revoke their licenses if the cars where off the road during their re-licensing period? In my view that would be a bit mean.

The owner could/should be prosecuted for taking punters without a license. As for insurance I suspect he would be covered.

what makes you think he wasn't licensed

the external plate is just that

it is not the license

perhaps it would help if you said which area your from.
and why its of such concern to you

the date on the licence is the date that it expires.
here in west lothian . the vechicle licence is for 12 months. and it is retested in the 11th month so that if any repairs are needed then it gets done within a 1 month time scale.so the MOT is only valid until the expiry date. the month had expired and the car was out working the ranks.

So what we had here was an unlicenced car with no valid insurance , working illegally ..

not necessarily
you don't know the circumstances
im interested in why you feel its any of your business.
since you clearly don't have all the facts
obviously there was some problem or other
and its been sorted
whats your beef

my current license is for 19 months with no conditions attached.
so it can happen through no fault of the drivers

my beef as you call it is this.

the car has expired and it is out work full stop .

yes i do have the facts as i have already stated above here in west lothian the car is valid for 1 year at a time . you get a time scale to to do any repairs to fix the car and you get a new licence. this a had ran out , fact..

if there is no MOT then there may be an insurance cert but it will be rendered void if no MOT..

the car is out working picking up hires that he is not entitled to do because the car is not a taxi any more as the plate has ran out...

compare this with another edict from our LA ..

if a taxi driver lets his Taxi Badge (ID) expire .. it is revoked forthwith no ifs buts or maybes.. the driver is suspended and has to resit his Topographical test again , which can take up to 3 months before you get a test date.

yet they will let an expired car work the ranks ..????

Well they shouldn't.

Make a formal complaint.
