No, it was many years ago. Before I got into this game.
It was 1987 at the SNP conference in Dundee.
He was the newly elected MP for Banff and Buchan back then.

Aye, a majority of seats, with half the electorate voting. Doesn't sound like a slam dunk referendum gig though, does it.

I sense another cleggie here. Push for your referendum, put all your eggs in the basket, and fall on your erse when it is rejected.

Clegg failed because he wasn't in control. He didn't set the date. he didn't set the question. There should have been alternatives. And he held the referendum when voters were clearly opposing it to stiff Clegg for getting into bed with the Tories. Clegg should go.

As for the Nasties, well we can expect a dirty tricks campaign from them. I've no doubt he will stir it up with Westminster prior to the vote to foment anti-English fervour.

Dangerous times indeed.

However, a modern republic, with 21st century justice education and health systems, freed from the privilege network headed by the English/German monarchy, may just have some appeal.

Salmond gets it wrong and loses the vote, then independence will be put on the back foot for generations and there will be no need for an SNP. back to the same old same old then

Remember, this SNP majority isn't predicated on anything they offered, it's because there was no one else to vote for. So the herd voted for the incumbent.

Labour were blamed for the recession, the Tories are a non-entity and the LibDems, well they're held in poor regard for thier betrayal to the Tories.

Which is why I'm laffing my cork off at the stupid Dougie and his ilk who think they've won a chocolate watch

Labour's vote was largely unchanged. The SNP benifited from the Lib Dem meltdown, and voila, the SNP upset the Holyrood applecart of intended minority governments.

If Nick Clegg hadn't cosied up to the Tories at Westminster the SNP wouldn't have won their landslide at Holyrood.

I hate to think that you're spot on. Not because you said it but because of what it means for us.

You don't want increased tax raising powers unless you intend to raise taxes. And we all know who will be paying them.

As for Dusty, you too are spot on. The LibDem meltdown means we are now under the yoke of the Scottish Nasty Parety's motley crew of bus drivers, grocers and other assorted ne'erdowells.

And all with a hinterland of "researchers" who will provide any consultations to justify the SNP stiffing us.

We're gonna get minimum alcohol pricing for example. It won't change anything cos the neds will just rob us more to maintain their lifestyle.

Think of it as alcohol price inflation leading to real crime inflation.

That extra granny bopped over the head will be a direct result of SNP policy.

Imaginge Scotland being ruled by the Private reggies and Stationtones of this world. The lunatics truly have taken over the asylum.

There are many in England who would like a referendum on England gaining independence from the United Kingdom, including me.
