Taxi talks set to be reborn

Friday 20 May 2011

Regular meetings between taxi bosses and town hall chiefs in Preston are expected to be re-instated to improve communication. The meetings with Hackney carriage and private hire drivers were ended in 2009 due to limited attendance from trade representatives, particularly private hire operators. Some meetings have taken place on an ad hoc basis but a regular stream of requests and issues being raised informally has put pressure on diminishing licensing resources. It is hoped the formal meetings, once every two months, will allow discussions on “matters of concern, enforcement, licensing policy and procedures” and improve relations. Members of the council’s taxi sub-committee will meet next Thursday May 26 to put the process into action.

These regular meetings are important for the trade, otherwise there is no dialogue and things can get strained.

I blame Charlie for it all.
