Anyone involved in the publication of the words will be liable unless they can establish a defence.

A defence can be for the defendant to show that although defamatory its words were published pursuant to the discharge of a public duty (e.g. reporting suspicion of a crime to the authorities) and are thereby privileged from suit but such a defence is vitiated if the claimant can show that the words complained of were published with malice. It is a defence for the defendant to show justification, meaning substantial truth of the words complained of.

you should really get your facts right before you put pen to paper.

expect a letter shortly after I've dealt with the licensing matter.

That'll be the trade adding 2 and 2 and making 22 again then. Another Bob Dewar moment. Another schoolchild mentality who doesn't understand the process.

Al;l this proves is the old adage that you don't have to be bright to be a cabbie.

That's why the Skull and I have always denied beiong to any status called cabbies. After all, who would want to be associatwed with dimwits like we have in our trade.

Things are so much simpler down here.

No one can object.

this dumbo thinks its a petition

perhaps he should try reading (learning how to)
then try reading the appropriate legislation relating to it.
and last but not least ...........get to the post office in time.

your objection is not only to late ,lacks substance or truth, but you have the cheek to tell the council that the reason for the lateness is you didn't know how to go about it

how long did it take for you to finally figure out that you write a letter to the council objecting ...a month

how many edinburgh cabbies does it take to write a letter....
it would be funny if it wasn't so true

i wish to formally object to the application lodged by jacqueline turnbull on 23 June 2011.

the reason for my objection is that they have in recent years been granted 3 taxi operators licenses which have then been sold.
they have publicly announced yesterday on the website tdo that again this license will be sold.

it is my belief that anyone who fits the councils criteria should be issued a license, however i don't believe this should be for profit by selling the license.

i apologize for the late lodging of of this objection but i was unaware of how to do this.
i hope the committee will consider this late objection.
i would apprieciate of you could acknowledge receipt of this late objection.

yours sincerely

No defamation. In fact what this guy is saying is that Mr Turnbull is one astute businessmans who recognises an opportunity and capitalises on it.

Pity that our government gurus don't have as much commercial nounce.

Anyway, how can the council uphold any objection when all that's happening is that the Turnbull's are simply playing by the rules the council established all by itself.

if the council don't like what is happening with plates, then it knows what to do. perhaps this moron may be the trigger for the council to see sense and end all of the grief that's been coming their way for years, by de-restricting.

BTW Like with Dewar's objection, this one shouldn't even get before the committee. If the rules of process are not adhered to, the it shouldn't even come before the committee. That such flawed complaints do come before the committee betrays just how incompetent this council is. Either that or its so corrupt that it wonb't allow its unelected officials to exercise any judgement.
