if i disagree with a charge made by my LA how do i request their method of calculating that cost?

i.e. they do a meter check for hacks which can only involve a member of staff witnessing the meter work over a measured mile. cost? £35.......

the charge in question is more, for less as far as i can see

they can only charge what it costs them as i understand it?

what AOP applies?

we shall fight them on the beaches, etc, etc

Send a FoI request asking for a detailed breakdown of the costs involved in the carry out the task you mention.

Isn't that just for drivers badges?

Who exactly does the meter check?

Because if it's a licensing officer, he ain't qualified to do so!!!

Brummie ~ a Meter Check can be done by a Penguin, so long as it is authorised by the proper LA.

After all, all that is needed is for the Cab to drive between 2 set points. The meter being started at the first and stopped at the second. It either reads correctly or it does not.

That's as may be.

But this is what used to be called a 'Weights and Measures' issue.

The only people that are allowed to do ANY meter tests in Brum are Trading Standards, just like the measure of dispensing fuel at a petrol pump has to be done by Trading standards.

It's not just the testing of the meter that's at issue here; it's the measured distance over which the vehicle is driven and that too is measured by Trading Standards.

Doing it your way, you might as well have Bruce Forsyth testing meters and saying, "Didn't he do well!" when it passes.
