Does anyone agree that it is terrible that Glasgow city council insist that taxi drivers have to go to BUPA wellness to get a medical rather than your, GP. I personally think it's a disgrace and don't understand what gives them the right to stipulate what company provides the medical. I think someone in Glasgow's licences department will be going a nice holiday for providing the work to BUPA

Yes it is sad that Glasgow wont allow you to be checked by someone of your choice, but I suspect it's because that system has been abused by many licensed drivers.

Councils have a duty to make sure that drivers are fit and proper, and it's their neck on the block if things go wrong. Thus they are trying to make sure that their neck stays on their shoulders.

Hopefully the medicals went out to tender, if not, then it should have done. And if BUPA where the cheapest, then BUPA it is.

In London they are given 4 or 5 places to choose from.

he will indeed, and whats more he will be staying with the Queen if he gets caught.

refer this matter to your SMP, this is abuse, rather like a council insisting on LTI vehicles rather than a speck.

The next thing they will think up is that drivers must do 5 laps around the vehicle and 10 pressups every day before starting a shift.

These Councils are Republics and follow their own Agenda, but then again thats power for you. The licence system for taxis should be taken out of LA controll. On your note what happens if your Dr. is working Part- Time with Bupa, they never thought that one up did they? :?

Cheers

the first license I got, my medical done by a famous doctor, now deceased his name was Shipman.

if you could stand in front of him waving a tenner you was well medicaly qualified to drive a taxicab.

sorry but I think Glasgow have a point.

What exactly is the differance, are you suggesting that a doctor charges more in his surgery than BUPA does in its hospitals.

If so, how much is the differance between prices.

I think I agree with Yorkie on this one, Glasgow seem to have it about right (providing the costs to you are roughly the same).

For all we know you may have a sympathetic doctor like Shipman, thank god he only examined Yorkie for his badge and didn't treat him, we all know how he exploited the elderly.

B. Lucky

I shall treat those last two with the contempt they deserve

I actually went to a doctor today with forms for my license in two authorities, the Calderdale medical cost £30, the Kirklees £60, combined £90

I was in his surgery 30 mins, 5 of those waiting.

As I went to the office to report back I was told the Kirklees medical is part of the application fee if I went to thier doctor!

well well well.
