And before I read the Link, I thought that you were referring to the Tram Fiasco!

I think this could be said for quite a lot of councils across the UK tbh, I also think it would be a good idea to show it's the council and not the the licensing department that the corruption is emanating from on this occasion, some folk locally blame the LO for everything, but I know the real problems are coming from upstairs and the LO's are getting the blame for the work of the faceless brownie traders.

The Edinburgh Cab Office was fire bombed a few years back, and someone got caught selling taxi driver licence under the table. Corruption is endemic in Local Authorities at all levels, and it's the gullible few who believe otherwise. It's only when it gets completely out of hand something is done about it.

Think back to the MP's, expense's scandal, and the public except Edinburgh Council to be any different.

You're probably right tbh, but I have confidence in our LO's that this isn't going on, I find ours to be decent people who simply do the job they are paid to do, the chief one I suspect has an upstairs hand working her strings though, but not on a sexual level but more on a "if you want to keep your job level" allegations are rife amongst certain councilors though about their conduct, even one I've known for over 20 years who I had faith in was found with her hand in the cookie jar, still nothing was done though and shes still there, thing they don't realise though is when the masses see a high level thief getting away with it they then think it's ok for them to follow suit.

I know, I know, more lucidity :D

And here's another little nugget for you Doom. I've stood by and watched while Edinburgh Council bought survey result from, "independent consultants." I've also sat at meetings where the outcomes were a foregone conclusion. Truth and fairness didn't even come into their thinking.

I even witnessed the Chairman, of the regulatory committee of the time, a Councillor Chris Wigglesworth, the Reverend Wigglesworth, lie through his teeth without raising a sweat.

Machiavellian politics is how this country operates, and to think otherwise, is either ignorance or naivety in the extreme. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas, so don't expect things to change anytime soon.

It's only idiot taxi drivers with pretend little businesses and the general public that want to believe the system is fair and honest.

A few years ago, when entering the City Chambers, I met a young woman protesting at the door about a property development, off Edinburgh's royal mile.

It had all the necessary ingredients, prime land fit for development, listed buildings and developers wanting to fill their pockets. She and her followers had spoken to councillors at meetings feeling sure they would listen to reason. Unfortunately, and to their dismay, they found out this is not how a council works. I think her words were, “they are a bunch of lying scheming [edited by admin].” I remember thinking, welcome to the real world. :-|

These are the people your Uncle Tom's (Trade Representatives) like Murray Fleming and Dod Aird suck-up to.

“Don't rock the boat or the council might de-restrict and above all, don't challenge the council on their conduct over driver hearings or tariff increases."

The Golden Rule of being a committee man is, doff your cap to councillors and fill your boots out of the company coffers.

No wonder your trade is fu*ked. :-|

I would pi*s on them . . .

Councillor Ewan Aitken, a man of the cloth and the credible face of the council, a whistle blower ex-council employee, hospitality records lost up to 2009. Institutional Corruption, and Action Building Contracts decline to comment.

What can I say, I am shocked and flabbergasted, you could knock me over with a feather.
